Make sure the player is switched off.

Open Philips Device Manager.

Press and hold [VOL+] whilst connecting it to the PC.

PC will report and error with your device.

Follow on screen prompts.

This will format the player and restore the firmware.

Firmware update problems are usually caused by a low battery. If you battery is low leave the player for 5 minutes before disconnecting from the PC.

Tips & Warnings

A good idea to stop Sansa devices from freezing is to always make sure that the player's firmware version is up-to-date. Download the firmware updater software from the Sansa website (see link in Resources).

To update :

Updating the firmware of your Sansa MP3 player is easy, and it will correct problems with the original software, and even add new features. Follow the instructions below to bring your device up to date. If you have any questions about the process, please consult the Sandisk website and support forums for more specific information. Links to these sites are provided at the end of this article.

things you'll need:

* A Sansa MP3 Player
* A Computer with an Internet Connection

instruction:

Automatic

Verify that the player is fully charged.

Verify the the player is unplugged from your computer.

Go to the Sandisk support site, linked below, select your player, and download the Sansa Firmware Updater software. Follow the instructions for installing it on your computer. If you need them, you may also download user manuals for your or watch how-to videos on updating the firmware.

Put the player in MSC mode. Go to the settings menu, select the USB submenu, and then select MSC. Some players with early firmwares do not have the USB options in the menu. If this is the case with your device, then there is another way to force it into MSC mode: Put the device in "hold" mode by sliding the hold switch until orange is visible. Next, press and hold the left (rewind) button until the screen changes. Go to the next step.

Plug your Sansa player into your computer and wait. The Firmware updater should launch automatically. Follow the prompts to update your player. Be certain not to unplug your player until the updater is finished. The software will tell you when it is safe to disconnect.

Tips & Warnings

If the above does not work for any reason, there is another way to update the firmware, by manually installing the necessary files. Consult the official support forum for specific instructions for your device. See the link below.

Be sure not to unplug your device while it is being updated. This could permanently ruin it.

Hope it helped...

I lost all my media!My player froze,so i reset it.And all is gone!!Is there anyway i can get it back?

not really, your filesystem most likely went corrupt and in fact to make the player work properly (you will be unable to add music most likely) you will need to use the philips device director to repair it. also when that is done, update the firmware (it might just start doing that in the first place, sometimes the ones i repair do. if the director is giving an error instead of repairing it all is not lost in my computer right click on your philips mp3 player's icon and click format this will clear the error and you can now update the firmware (a repair is not necessary) do not worry about ruining your mp3 player most likely your philips uses media player to transfer music so windows knows what it is. Hope this helps!

My 4G Ativa MP3 player does not work at all and I have only had it since Christmas. I have been unabe to find information online about the warranty specifications. Can you please tell me how to find the...

MAY be a fix. Had a similar problem with mine. Your player is made by Perception Digital and is
model PD-6050. The link to the manual is here http://www.perceptiondigital.com/client/downloads.php?product_id=117&prod_type=3
From this, I found the reset procedure and the recovery procedure, which are not in the Ativa manual.
Try updating the firmware if the player is recognised by the computer. The firmware utility is on the CD that came with the player. When you update, make sure you check the format box. The update may be the same version as you have, doesn't matter, do it anyway.

Note: Interrupting power or pulling out the USB during firmware update will ruin the player, so don't do that ;-)

Need to reinstall data on RCA Opal M4208GR-B

I did the same thing and reformatted mine too! If you go to www.rcaaudiovideo.com and put in your model number M4208GR and click on the update for the firmware update again then it will put everything back on the MP3 player. I know it sounds nuts but it worked for me and it wont do anymore harm then you have already done ;) Give it a try. Hope it works for you like it did me!

Problems with matsui mat140mr when operating on random play player returns to same starting place when switched off and returns to factory settings

sounds like failed and unsaving firmware. try doing a firmware update(look on the matsui website for downloads under your player). this may not work. if it doesn't, then your player will be like that for as long as you own it. if you have alot of expirience with soldering, you can try to buy the firmware chip, donload and install the firmware onto the chip, and then solder it into place where the old firmware chip is. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE ALOT OF EXPIRIENCE WITH SOLDERING!!! this may ruin your player if done improperly!!!

Firmware Update::Memorex MMP8565

They're talking about the folder saved on your desktop that you downloaded. It should be something with the name of the player in it. You double click on that folder, and it has setup.exe inside it, and you double click on that. What site did you get the firmware update from?
