If you have a windows xp CD, > boot with that and choose repair on the first question that appear. run checkdisk on c:. type in the cmd prompt " chkdsk c: /R " wait and restart later. that could fix the problem.

Try going into the control panel in the start menu. Then open the user accounts and see if you can change the password within here. There will be a link to click that says change password. If it does not work You can try loading safe mode.
To load safe mode press F8 repeatedly when turning computer on. This will bring up an advanced options menu. > Within the advanced options menu use the arrow keys on keyboard to navigate.> Highlight safe mode and press enter. > This will load windows into safe mode when loaded it will take you to screen for users to sign in. > Try logging into the administrator account without putting anything in the password field. > you can try any other accounts here as well to see if they may let you in > If this allows you to log in. You can go into the control panel under the start menu. > Then go into user accounts and change the password from within here. There will be a link that says change password.

When switching on PC it does not boot up fully

Hi Craig

From what you are descrbing one of the background services is preventing start up from completing

Please try the following

1) Switch on PC
2) Continuoulsy press the F8 key until a start menu is presented, choose safe mode from this menu
3) Once safe mode has loaded up go to Start>Programs>Systems Tools>System Restore
4) From the system restore menu choose 'restore my computer to a earlier time'
5) From the calendar presented choose a date in bold when this fault wasnt happening and then click on next and follow the screen through
6) Let the system restore complete and it will automatically reboot and take you back to the mains windows screen
7) This should hopefully let the hung service be able to run

I hope this has been useful

Problems loading OS in Gateway desktop

Normally installing the os on a different mechine, and then putting into another pc dosent work.

If the hardrive is the oringinal drive, which came with the system, and you want to install xp on, you will have to use a dos disk with fdisk on it, delete all partitions on the drive and create a new partition, then start loading windows, it will give you the option to format the drive for nt(ntfs) file system and setup windows.

If you do that and it still gives you protecting files error, you will have to take the side panel of the computer tower, unplug from the mains and take the cmos battery out for about 30 secs, put the battery back in, plug in the mains and reboot the computer, start loading windows again
Hope this helps and post back if you need further assistance.

For that You can solve this errors with following 2 methods.
(1)When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode.
Then if you are able to enter in safe mode then uninstall driver or software which you installed recently and face this error.

My computer is rebooting over an over ....dont have time to do anything....now i open my computer on safe ....mode what should i do??? i have window xp

If your computer fully loads Windows, than starts a restard process you are looking at having an annoying virus. Since there are several different viruses that can cause this problem, if this is the reason for the restarting, you would be best off loading Windows in safe mode (using the F8 key before Windows starts to load will give you a menu with options like SAFE MODE) and than trying to scan it for viruses.

If your computer doesn't actually load Windows, but restarts after the Windows loading screen, you could have a corrupt driver causing Windows to restart. If your computer were slow, you would see the error message, faster computers go through the error screen too fast. The best way to determine this would be to start in SAFE MODE and see if the same problem exists.

Let me know what happens after you start in SAFE MODE. 6 Pts Rate Answer

Problem with rundell.exe and ntvdm.exe

AvastFREE
Free antivirus select your language and country, download and open, select run a boot time scan restart.
After the unit is virus free we'll work on the next problem, but rundll errors generally occur when infected by malware or trojans.
