First of all unplug the jack interconnecting the speakers to the audio source, put the loudness to max, touch the jack with the tip of your finger(any sound?) if no sound produced open the equipment and check tha fuse and the amplifier.Remember if there is audible sound the source is faulty. thanks

Hp pavilion slimline shut itself off and will not come back on.

Sounds like a power supply problem. Usually this occurs when
doing work that involves a lot of memory, and progressively gets worse.
It has something to do with the crowbar circuit that shuts the power supply whets overloaded; sometimes a trigger-happy SCR.
Life is a lot better if you use one of those Ebay power supply testers with an LCD display, but these testers don't draw enough current to trigger a potentially bad crowbar.
Best solution I can think of is purchase another ATX power supply 350w or more with the same dimensions. Pay attention to the lenght of the replacement ps to see if it's too long (front to back) to fit in your computer.
Hope this helps.

Sound

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers or uninstall
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

If I remove the power supply from the computer and then plug it into an electrical outlet why won't it produce any voltages?

This is a Very Good Question!
It is to protect you and what things maybe by
You know those two plugs that are plugged into your MB.
When on the board they close the circuit.
Now Sometimes there are schematics that tell you which one to jumper, but that takes research and the model of your supply

Power supply arcing noise

Disconnect all devices from the power supply EXCEPT the motherboard
Remove any extra cards including video etc.(plug monitor into the onboard)

If the PSU fan does not spin then time for repair / replace

If you hear any beeps these can indictate where the fault is.
either of these sites below will help you further with that

Beep codes Pc

More beep codes

Power up the pc and see if the fans are working.
If not then double check the power connections to the board.

If you still have no fans it is time to suspect the power supply as the probable cause.

If the fans worked then you should have gotten a display which told you there was an error and offering you a chance to go into the BIOS. ignore it and shut down the PC.

Now connect one drive only and boot again.

Repeat that until you identify the component that is giving you a problem.

Once you find the problem then remove or disconnect and carry on with the rest to see if another component might also cause a problem

If there is only one problem device then you may want to investigate that device further, Unless you don't mind replacing it

Comp does not turn on. green light off but goes on when mobo disconnected

Test the power supply in another computer.
If that works, the next thing is to check the mother board. Remove all daughter boards from the slots. Remove all memory, disconnect all hard drives, cdroms, etc.
Make sure there is nothing plugged into the mother board except the video cable (if it is on-board video), if not, then make sure you have a good video card plugged in.
Again with no memory, no boards except a video card, if needed, and the power plugged into the board.
Turn on the power, and watch the screen. If it works, then you should get a notice that there is no memory, no hard drive, and so on.
If that is the case, then proceed to install one item at a time to isolate the problem. If it is not the case, the the mother board is probably bad. One other thing to check would be the CPU.
If you get no notice with the above, then the cpu could be bad. Check it in another computer, if possible. This should tell you what the problems are or is.
In the above cases, either the cpu or the mother board can be isolated to see what is bad, if any.

No sound on my hp desktop

Hello,

First and make sure you plugged the speakers into the correct port in the back of the computer. Green port is normally the port you want to plug into. 9 times out of 10 this is the issue. Next, try reinstalling the driver, by going to HP web site and downloading the most current driver. If you don't feel comfortable doing so, I am sure they have a return policy for repairs done incorrectly.
