Vizio almost 3 years old, after a loud pop noise, it shut down and would power on (green light) but blank black screen. I am pretty handy as far as replacing parts but don't have knowledge to diagnosing it.What would you recommend ? Thanks
Sounds like a bad power supply.
I have a GV42L 42" manufactured in march 2007. It works perfect except the screen has a fracture on it. The warranty is voided because we damaged the screen. I can sell this to somone who has a good screen but needs boards or speakers, etc. Or I will buy your tv that has a good screen but damaged boards in it. email@example.com

something is wrong with your z board
you need to open the back of the tv and check the fuses on the boards it has 3 boards
left side y board ,right side z board .
check the fuses first
That loud pop is your Y and Z sustainer. Normally it goes out completly but yours is still half working. Not usally fixable yourself, because you may need to flash the control board f/w , which is proprietary and can't be aquired unless you work for them,
those vizio plasma have a lot of problems, its still most likely the Ysus board, but it will have to be tested to know for sure. If you bought it at coctco you are in luck, if bought a couple of years ago they will give you a full refund. you can try replacing it yourself by checking shopjimmy.com or ebay
its the capacitor on the power board that pop.they over heat its like a computer power supply if you had no fan to keep it cool..replace the capacitors on the power supply and it should work.if you can think of a way to keep the board cooler it wont happen again.
Well, I have the same problem - I have a Vizio P50 HDM that died after 16 months of use (1 year warranty). I called Vizio and they gave me the number of their authorized service company. They told me that it was the YSUS board which would have to be replaced with the ZSUS board - $835.00 visit including parts. That was three months ago and they are still not here. This is a common problem - Do a Google search for the "Vizio Pop of Death". It seems most are not repairable and have to be replaced. Now I have a $2700 wall decoration. One idea might be to do a search on Ebay for the part number - More and more are showing up on Ebay from units with cracked screens - Good Luck. I was a component level TV tech for 20 years and will do this myself, probably with parts from Ebay. Some say they have had success taking it back to Costco or Sams, even after two years - If you got it at one of these stores, it wouldn't hurt to try.
Vizio P50 Death pop no more video.. gets sound.. 2 yr old set pais $1800 at costco.
Common Issue.. Called Vizio .. told me has lifetime full waranty.. they knew from pop and no video what was wrong.. ordered parts without looking at set. Sending repairman out all in lass than 1 week.
Just be nice when you call.
They tell you to unplug for 30 sec. Plug back in and hold powerbutton when replug... it doesnt work. Get kicked up to level 2 support... problem solved... as long as repair works...
