Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My fridge of 3.5 years KitchenAid Model KBRA22KMSS00 all of a sudden is making weird noises as if the compressor is continueously getting turned on and off. Also, I have noticed the freezer is not working properly. All my meats are in half frozen state. I have tried to turn off the fridge for 1 hr and then turn it on again to see if it resolves the issue, and it did not. Any idea as what could be the issue and how I could get it fixed.

If the compressor is turning on and off you will only have partial cooling/freezing at best .if this is what is happening there are only a couple of things that can cause it,firstly listen to the fridge at the rear for an audible click when it turns off,if this is heard it is stopping on klixon overload due to either a faulty overload or faulty compressor, this is a sign of excessive amp draw, the other thing that can cause this is a faulty thermostat,it can be checked by bridging the thermostat resulting in fridge now not turning off and freezing everything, hope this helps

Kitchenaid KSCS251 from 2004 suddenly stopped cooling/freezing all interior lights work.

If the previous posts do not solve the problem, these fridges frequently have failures in the control board. The control board is no-longer-available from Kitchenaid however is can be rebuilt at www.fixyourboard.com. The rebuild comes with a 2 year warranty. The turn around time is a few days. The control board may be one of (depending on your full model number): 2252159, 2215946, 2221501, 2221522, 2252071, 2252095, 2252097, 2254739, 1548001, 2223443, 2252111, 2303934, 2307005, 2307028, 8201521, 2304135, W10121049, W10219462, W10219463, W10185291

Fridge stopped working both freezer and fridge, Here clicking at compressor, compressor not starting, cooling fan and everything else OK, could it be the compressor or is there a chance the thermal switch...

This is a bad compressor, or overload-relay kit. Disconnect the power, remove the overload-relay from the compressor, and test the three compressor terminals for continuity . You should have continuity between each terminal, and you should not have continuity between any terminal and ground. If this tests ok, then replace the overload-relay kit. This is a common repair for me, and it is very rare for us to find a bad compressor, so you should be ok. If it is a bad compressor, and it is less than five years old, you have a five year sealed system warrantee, that will cover the repair cost. If it is over five years old, it is not worth repair. When you are done with the repair, make sure you install a 2000 joule or higher, surge protector to protect your refrigerator from this type of repair in the future. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

if it is making a lot of noise then your compressor is going out, if it is full of dirt dust or debree vacume it, or if you have a air compressor, then blow it out, but unplug your fridge to let the compressor cool down, if it is cold outside and you can wheel it there with no problem then you can clean it . you might have a freon leak or a stuck valve let it get cooled off and try again

Model kbr20etss01 very noisy when compressor is running

If the noise seems to be coming from the compressor That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.
Also you have two fans which run when the compressor runs. One is next to the compressor and the other is behind the rear cover inside the freezer. One of them can be hitting something or the fan motor itself could be making the noise which would be a bad motor.

Motor continuously runs.

What you describe sounds like the fridge is not making temperature for the thermostat to shut off. What number is the thermostat on? 0-6 usually a setting of 3 or 4 will do. Try turning the thermostat down to 1 to test it, does the compressor stop? Place a thermometer in the fridge for an hour with the thermostat on 4 and keep the door shut, if it doesn't get below 7'C (1)Check your door seal is clean and seals all the way round when you shut the door. (2)The cold element is frosted up and can't work properly-defrost the fridge. (3)If your sure the compressor is rotating then your fridge requires regassing, although this means potentially there is a leak and no guarantee can be placed on how long this will last.(mine was 5 years between gassing)

if you hear a clicking like the compressor is trying to start, like a clicking on and off this sounds like it could be your start run relay trying to kick your compressor on. if this is bad it will continue to click, and your compressor won't start. unless your mechanically inclined this might be the time to call a service tech. the start run relay switch sits on the compressor behind the fridge.
