I checked the belt and it has not broken, but when I start to vaccum the spinning head stops, and I start to smell a rubber smell...Do you think I need to replace the belt, I did get some string caught in it the last time I vaccummed, and it did stink like rubber then also...

Yes you do need to replace the belt they stretch out. Think of a belt like a big rubber band if you were to stretch it out and hold a lighter to it the rubber band would stay stretched out. That is the same thing that happens when you get it caught on string or an area rug the brush stops but the little metal shaft keeps spinning creating heat and stretching the belt. Visit www.stevessewandvac.com for belts, bags or any other vacuum need.

Roller not spinning

Possible belt broken. If you smell an odor like burning rubber it could be the belt that turns the roller if not the belt could be broken already.Possible string or something else wrapped around roller. If you have animals in home they shed and the hair or fur gets wrapped around roller and it will stop the roller.

Smells like burning rubber when running

Vacuum belts lose elasticity and will slip. It may spin the brush roll ok when you look at it but be so loose that when. Vacuuming carpets the belt will stop turning. The motor shaft is still spinning and will melt the rubber belt causing a burned rubber smell. Belts on almost All vacuums need. To be changed at least twice per year.

My vacuum cleaner brush stopped rotating. Just before it stopped, I smelled some burnt smell. Any idea?

Hi there,
Almost certainly you have broken the drive belt. THese machines have a rubber belt that is designed to snap if you get the roller brush stuck on something. The most common reason for this to occur is that you **** up the end of a rug, the curtain or a sock. This will stop the roller but the drive shaft will continue to spin which chews through the rubber belt.
What you will need to do is buy a new belt and fit it on.
Hope this is helpful for you. If it is please take a moment to give me a rating. If you are in Australia and need somewhere to get you miele belt from try nelsonvacuums or VacuumSpot.

rotate the front belt lifter from green to red then rotate the locking knob above the nozzle. and the head will lift off. it helps if you put the height adjustment in the highest setting. did it smell like rubber burning?

Vaccum cleaner belt change

If you've put a new belt on and you still are getting a rubber smell, then odds are that your agitator (the rotating brush) is not turning freely, and that means either (a) you need to remove the end caps and remove any hair / debris that is under those end caps, or (2) the bearing(s) of the agitator are bad. Depending on the model of the Sharp (which was not provided), you may be able to order just the defective bearings and replace them (or take the agitator to a vacuum shop to have them do it), or you can (or may need to) order the agitator assembly complete.

Hoover Empower Widepath, brush won't spin.

The belt needs to be changed, it's probably spinning in place which is causing the smell (burnt rubber).

Smell/suction

The brushroll may spin when looking at it but stops when pressure of the floor is applied. The belts stretch, so they look fine but are not. The smell - if it's a rubber smell - would also be the belt. Some, or most, brushrolls can get hair in the ends that could also cause a smell and belt problem.
