The fan in the desktop is not working and there is a faint burnt smell when we turn on the desktop. The tower is not hot and everything seems to work. Last night we had it on for about 15 minutes then heard a pop. I turned off the desktop, it was still not hot but did have a very faint burnt smell. Is it safe to turn on the tower? If I replace the power supply/fan will the desktop be okay? Thank you

Hi,

Even if the system seems to be running fine, you may damage it further if you do not seek out repairs. A good start, as you stated, would be to try a fan, and see if that one spins up. A new power supply is always a good option. From there, you may want to seek out repairs from a local repair shop or if the desktop is still under warranty, call Dell support.

Better safe then sorry :)

Regards,

If you make sure the bad fan has been replaced you'll be fine. If you don't replace the bad fan it could overheat cause more problems than you have now.

Hi,

Yep, it would be better replacing the Power Supply and the Fan before it really damage the Motherboard of the machine and the other components in it.

Gnev120w Made a noise, now not freezing.

the fan only controls air circulation. not the function of the motor. sounds like ur fridge is stuck in the defrost mode? check ur cold control thermostat with a multi meter for continuity. the fan does not run while in defrost mode, u can manually check ur defrost timer in the fridge by sticking a small screwdriver into the hole underneath it, and turn clockwise till u hear a click u should hear the fan and compressor come on if not turn 1 more click?

Whirlpool SXS.....1. compressor cooling fan quit so fridge and freezer stopped working. 2. replaced cooling fan and fridge and freezer working again. 3. Now the fridge and freezer works but runs nonst

Check to see if the sensor in the freezer compartment is encased in ice. If so, do a complete defrost and restart the unit. Another possibility is a bad thermostat and/or sensor.

My problem is simple to describe: The computer starts and runs fine, except for the smell...and the heat. The smell resembles burning plastic, and the heat output is noticeably higher. There's no smoke...

It more than likey seems to be your fan if the heat from your tower is noticeably higher and the smell.

If computer still under gaurantee you will be able to get it repaired for free from the manufacturers.

If not, take the tower cover off, and get a hoover and **** all dust particles from the system.

You may also need to invest into another fan, this should stop the smell and also the overheating

Hope this helps and please rate thanks.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

Air conditioner on my '07 pt stopped putting out cold air.The fuses seem to be ok,as is the fan and the controls seem to be funtioning properly.there was also a faint smell of burnt wiring before it...

You have a short on some of your wiring somewhere. Do not delay. Take the vehicle to a service location and have the wiring checked. Some of these wires are bundled with other wires. If there is a short exposing wires to shorts with each other they could be causing more damage to your vehicle ECM that you don't see right now. Everything may basically be working fine now but in a month you will need a new ECM and the cost of those is tremendus.

GDM-12 Refrigerator smells burnt. Any suggesstions?

It could be smelling burnt for a few reasons. The best case scenario would be that the condensor fan is stuck which is causing the compressor to get hot and burn, in this case you would just find the obstruction and remove it. Or the condensor's fan motor could be bad, causing the fan to spin slowly which would also cause the compressor to get hot and burn, in this case you would replace the fan motor. Or the cooler has a restriction in the refrigeration lines causing the compressor to work harder which causes the compressor to get hot and burn. In this case call a refrigeration technicion to clear the lines.

Kitchenaid superba electric oven kebc107kss05

Did this with me twice now on self clean. It's the thermostat on the back of the oven. Set to trip when oven gets too hot which happens with self clean. Part is about $45 - $50 and pretty simple to install. Hardest part is pulling the oven out of the wall.

Refrigerator Smell

Is the problem more in the freezer than the fridge section. If it is it is possible that on a defrost cycle the heaters which warm the coil may have warped and ar heating something they shouldnt. Another possibility is if there is something in the condensate tray (where the water collects) or something touching the compressor which runs very hot, or even the compressor relay if it is a 'plastic' smell. Smells are notoriously bad things to trace as engineers normally turn up when the smell is either gone or so faint as to not to detect. All I can suggest is trying to narrow the search area as much as you can and hopefully youll find it. Hope this is of some help.
