There is a code 43 on my SATA External HD doesn't recognize on my laptop how do i fix it??

ERROR 43? Check your SATA connection.
HERE'S HOW I FIXED MINE.
(IE. Computer tries to install driver for BD burner, but ultimately fails, and gives the message. "Unsuccessful" and/or "Microsoft Windows stopped device. Error 43") The SATA CONNECTION on my BD burner's EXTERNAL CASE had gone bad.
TO TEST IT. I used a SATA/IDE to USB Adapter Cable I bought for about $10 on amazon.

• I unscrewed the external case to get at the internal drive, and plugged the SATA adapter cable directly into the internal BD burner drive (bypassing the case assembly), and plugged the other end into my computer USB port.
  • PS My BD burner POWER was working OK, so I left the big white 4pin power adapter connected to the original external case.

VOILA! Both my laptop and my desktop PC recognized the LG BD burner again and assigned it a drive letter (like it used to do).

• Now I either need to (1) Buy a NEW EXTERNAL case ($10 - $30), (2) install it as an internal drive (could get problematic if "ANYDVD" is installed) or (3) just leave it connected via the cheap adapter cable.

It's super EASY (& inexpensive) to TEST this before spending $$$$ on a new equipment.

There is a setting in the control panel<sound to choose your default input and output for the sound card

"Joecolvette" has probably got it right, I've seen this before. The HDD enclosure circuit board has a fault. Can be resolved by replacing the enclosure. Plenty on ebay, just ensure you buy one with the correct HDD interface (Sata or IDE).

Alternatively, if you have a tower with a spare port, you could take the HDD out of the caddy, install it in the tower as a "Slave" (check jumper settings) ensuring the system drive is set to "Master". Then you can check whether the HDD itself is at fault.

If BIOS doesn't detect it either the data/power cables are bad or not making a good connection, or the drive has failed.

click start right click on computer select properties then on device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap

No power cable = no power to the board of the HD = no way to communicate with the motherboard = the motherboard doesn't know the hd is in there.
Plug the power cable.

YOU HAVE TO SETUP YOUR HARD DRIVE FIRST
YOU NEED WD HD MANAGER PROGRAM
AND FORMAT IT BY THIS PROGRAM

I had the same problem with a WD external hard drive. I tried it in multiple computers and it was never recognized. I uninstalled the driver from the same screen where you see the error 43 message, then swapped the USB cable connecting the drive... and then the computer detected it. It suggested a chkdsk which I ran, it looks like its back to normal now

The could be only two reasons for that problem with enclosure or hd. You need first figure out which one is the problem.
Plug the HD directly to the computer and see if computer can recognize it. If computer can recognize HD and you can access it then the problem with enclosure and something got burned when power got back. If you the enclosure still under warranty try to get replacement of if you electronic tinker you might try to fix it. If computer not able to recongnize HD and you can't access it from WIN then HD got fried. I would not recommend to store any important data on HD there is always a chance it will fail at some point.

Hi, This is a common problem with external storage. Based on your post/description: 1. Your laptop does not recognize the external hard drive via its USB connection - try on a different computer - if it is still a no go, then it's not a PC problem; 2. Try replacing the cable - again if a no go, so it's not an interface/cable problem; 3. That leaves you only with the PS3200 itself as the possible at fault. An external hardrive would consist of 2 main parts, the electronic board and the hard disk itself. The board seldom (if ever) fails. Its function is to provide conversion/interface from the SATA/IDE connectors of the HD to the out USB/Firewire. The HD more often than not fails. Most external storage uses a standard HD inside the enclosure. Your possible options: a. Claim warranty/replacement; b. Replace the HD only; c. Physically remove the HD and connect it directly inside a desktop either as IDE or SATA and run manufacturer's diagnostic and/or third party recovery software; d. Seek services of professional data recovery firms (if data/files are mission critical); Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
