Most digital cameras jams are the cost of lens problems while zooming, with Nikon Coolpix S4000, simply use your fingers carefully pulling on the lens while turning the camera on. this can be done by getting your fingernail under the lens opening and gently pull. When I'm taking a picture, - muunlyte5608.jpg

From what you're describing it sounds like the camera has been dropped on the lens when the lens was out, which tends to lock up the zoom mechanism. It can be repaired but it costs around $250+ from my experience, you'd probably be better off getting a new camera unfortunately.

I would suggest checking if the camera is still in warranty, the problem seems related to the unit and not with the model.Try checking in nikon site if you have the latest firmware, updating the firmware sometimes helps.

Getting an zoom error on my fuji film finepix z90, what can i do?

Lens errors (zoom errors on Fuji's) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Camera will not take pictures. Message on screen says: System Error Zoom I have not had any problems with zoom. How do I fix or clear this message. Thanks, Marsha

Please follow the steps:
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine.

Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec... in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.

After all of this if you not success then its a lens error. The lens stuck from the inside becasue the lens guide pin is damaged or out of guide line. In this case you have to replace or repair the camera lens.

Hope helps; keep us updated and remember to rate this answer.

Fujifilm finepix j38 series reads zoom error and wont take a pic.

If you have some skills, you can open the camera and cline your zoom lens with toothbrush and compressed air. Try to separate zoom lens from the electric motor. usually is 2 or 3 screws. You will see a lot of sand inside the camera and lens. And next time when you will go to the beach, you will take more care about your camera.
Solution 2, and more easy is to buy another zoom lens from ebay.Or another camera same model with broken LCD or other technical problem than zoom lens.

The zoom won't work on my Canon A460

Your zoom may be turned off, here is how you can turn it back on:
When you are about to take a picture, press the little menu button, then press down until it says digital zoom, if the little black box is over-top of 'off' change it to say 'on'.
Hope this helps.....and makes sense.

Broken Zoom on Fuji Finepix F470

Try turning the power on and gently pulling the lens outward as it powers up. This may force the gears to re-align themselves. Use "fingertip" pressure only. Don't force it excessively. Also try turning on, and then applying slight pressure to the front of the lens while you power it off. You can also try rotating the lens barrel segments while it powers up or shuts off. Sometimes either can get the lens back on track.

Fuji Zoom Error Message

Ronald, There is no easy fix, you?ll have either disassemble and get dirty, or take to an authorized repair person. This zoom error problem is usually caused due to dirt or dust in the zoom mechanism. If you think you can handle disassembling the camera then grab a set of gentile screwdrivers and follow these instructions: You will have to remove a few circuit boards in order to get to the zoom mechanism.
