Question about Toshiba 14DLV75 14 in. TV/DVD Combo

1 Answer

Reverse Polarity I have a Toshiba 14DLV75. The 110 goes into a transformer that knocks it down to 12 volts. I was on my boat and tried a connection direct to 12 volts and the antenna coax hook up got real hot and the Tv went on for a second. Now it won't turn on at all. Is there a fuse or something that I could replace to make it work or did I burn out a board?

Thanks, I have a TV repair shop close to home and I will take it them. They should be able to figure it out. Hopefully it will just be a diode. I did open it up and found no fuses anywhere.

    Thanks again!

After watching a video from an external source, my Toshiba 14DLV75 won't power on.  Very frustrating.

Look at the 'wall wart' transformer case.
it should state the input voltage and frequency (110-115-120 - not important) and probably also 60Hz.

It should also have the output specs such as:

12VAC or 12VDC @ some amps or milliamps.

If it says the output is AC, then the TV might not be able to handle DC input although it wouldn't make sense if it couldn't; why supply with 12VAC if it was intended to be portable?

That the coax connector got hot is a baaad thing; that may mean that your boat is positive ground but that would be rare.
The shell of the antenna connector is certainly tied to the chassis and the negative side of any external input.

The input connector itself may be at fault if it is not the typical - shell / + center contact.

Just some things to check and yes, you may have damaged something inside but it could be only a fuse or a protective diode; either would be cheap to replace.

What is reverse polarity

Reverse polarity means in a dc voltage scenario (boat camper anything 12 volt Dc) thatvthe positive ( red) and the negative ( black ) have been switched or reversed. In a 120 volt ac scenario (house ,garage , outlet etc.) It means the hot
( black ) and the neutral ( white) are reversed.
hope this helps.

Tip

Building Power Supplies

Get you a 12 to 15 volt Transformer. Buy two big power diodes from Radio Shack. A capacitor 100uf to 470uf that handles 16 volt or 20 v. Buy two 0.01uf Disc capacitors. Get you a board 6x6 inches. Bolt down transformer to board. Hook leads to Diode like this: One lead to Striped side of Diode(1). the other lead to Diode(2) opposite side. Use capacitor 470uf (+) to striped side of Diode(2). Use capacitor(-) to Black side of Diode(1). Make sure polarity is right + - etc..Solder 0.01uf capacitor across Diode(1) and Solder other 0.01 uf Capacitor across Diode(2). Parallel wise. This Bypasses Rf so you get no Hum. There you go simple 12 Volt DC current to run mobile radios indoors.

Transformer AC 9 Volt, battery 4x 1.5 Volt DC. On

first is no i would not recommend feeding the 9 volt dc through the actual 9 volt ac it may damage the bridge rectifier that converts the ac to dc

Driver side window on dodge caravan stopped working in the down position, is there a way to manually get it up?

Try wiggling harness that goes from post to door by hinges, or open wire loom up and see if any damaged wires. If worst comes to worst, I'd remove interior panel and try jumper wires directly to motor connector at least to get window back up. You can use a 12 volt or 14 volt cordless battery. Reverse polarity, reverses direction of the motor. FYI.

Honda eu10i reverses polarity on boat

Polarity lights in AC means that it thinks the wrong input lead is earthed ie neutral.

If polarity detector is showing that there is no neutral earth bond it may not be a bug but a feature, as standard the EU10i would not have an earth neutral bond.

Otherwise I can not see why your detector thinks there is a polarity reversal.

Wireing a 24 volt go cart

Obviously will need more details on what you have there already Tom, but with DC current, in order to reverse direction, you simply reverse polarity. Take a power window on a car as an example: Although 12 volt, same basic idea and principles apply. When you hit the switch in one direction, + power is sent to window motor through one wire, and negative through the other wire. When you hit switch in opposite direction, the wire that was showing + 12 volts, now becomes ground, and the wire that was ground (-) will show 12 v + current flowing. The reversing of polarity (current) is done withing the switch and how it's wired. So basically, if you take the 2 wires going to motor, and reverse them, the motor should turn in opposite direction.

Malibu Light Transformer ML121RT troubleshooting

1) Disconnect the plug.
2) Remove the 3 hex screws holding the cover.
3) Make a note of all connections (taking a picture is even better).
4) Connect the black power wire to the red transformer wire.
5) Connect the white power wire to the white transformer wire.
6) Set your voltmeter to 20 or 50 volts AC (not DC and not less than 15 volts).
7) Plug the transformer in the wall.
8) Test the voltage coming from the A & B connectors at the back (polarity is irrelevant).
If you see 12 volts or thereabout, the problem is with the little switch (the one with the black and red wires that is activated by the trippers on the clock dial). I have the exact same problem but I have been unable to locate the part so I am going to try to clean the contact points and see if that works.

Goodman heater will not start have continuous blinking light replaced secondary transformer still no work and continusous blinking verified 120 volts to vent fan but vent fan not running vent fan ohms to...

I cant be sure but usually the constant blink on some boards means reversed polarity. Check your HOT (L1 - Black) comming in to the connector box and the your NUTURAL (L3 - White) should not read any volts to ground (not more than 12 volts on an electronic VOM). If this is opposite remove power and reverse black and white wires and retry.
HOPE THIS HELPS PLEASE GRADE ME ACCORDINGLY and GOOD LUCK!

Front drivers side window will not go up or down?

Your window is powered by a reverse polarity electric 12 volt motor. To raise, the polarity travels in one direction. To lower, it is reversed. Gain access to the motor by removing the door panel and locate two wire connection to the motor. Connect two leads to the motor that you know are one each, positive current and negative current Motor should run in one connected way and also run in the other connected way. If motor doesn't run, motor is bad..
