Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

Can't access my encryption key anymore

Recently i noticed i can't connect wirelessly to my router anymore. It says my passkey isn't correct. So when i try to get my manual encryption key through Linksys Easylink Advisor, it doesn't show it anymore. Every section except the password i entered says N/A. and that password doesn't work. I try to change my wireless security through Easylink, but it says my router's not supported!

I'm suspicious of a whole bunch of routers around my neighborhood. i found 3 new ones from my laptop and think maybe someone hacked my settings. any advice? Or at least someone tell me how to completely reset my routers settings.?

    ok. the clarify:

I'm using it currently on a wired connection. (wired = working).

Tried the linksys config using the default gateway (192.168.1.1) doesn't work at all. says "Failed to Connect".

Tried ipconfig/all and made sure 192.168.1.1 WAS my gateway.

NOW for some reason, i can't even get to the "router password" screen from my laptop. says "may be due to timeout or user action".

I will try to completely reset my router with the 10-second press. But i didn't see an option for WPA security when i first set it up. i know there's vulnerabilities with WEP, because there's tons of tutorials online. Is there a different configuration software than the included Easylink Advisor that works better?

More problems: Even after a complete reset, I still can't get to the default linksys admin page. i'm able to ping it, but it never opens. LELA still doesn't recognize my router as a compatible device. The firmware is apparently rolled-back to 7.50.2, so i don't see why there's still a problem. I'd really like some more help on this. I don't want my connection wide open for everyone to steal. (I seem to get connection THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD.)

Are you unable to access the router config or just unable to get connected to the router via wireless?
You should start by directly cabling to the router rather than trying to config via wireless. If you are able to access the router config this way with its IP address, then you should be able to get access to your wireless key. Are you using WPA or WEP? If as you say you have other users in the area, and you were suing WEP, it is possible that your were hacked since WEP is easily hackable. Switch to WPA and use a password at least 10 or 12 characters in length. Give your router a unique name and then hide the SSID. This will keep anyone from easily seeing your router and being nosey.
If you are unable to gain access with the router connected via hard wire, then your router admin password has been changed. You can reset to factory defaults by pressing and holding the reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds. You should then be able to access the router via the default IP, username and password.
    IP: 192.168.1.1
    Username: blank
    Password: admin

You can try accessing the router setup page or the user interface of it byu typing the http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar of the computer that is wired to the router and working to the internet, of you can also call linksys tech support so you don't need to reset the router because they can tell you how to change and check all the settings on your router this is the number 800-3267114, but if you want to reset the router just press and hold the reset button of it for 10 seconds,,,,

Hope that helps.......

Router wifi and computer dont connect

Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. Toconnect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure thewireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ieSSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops cancommunicate with your wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

Hello there Sir/Madam! My name is Alex and I work under FixYa.com expert team surveillance.

Solution for your problem you can still find at this adress.

Well, its noticeable that a lot of people complain about exactly that type of router "Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router". There is definitely problem with firmware upgrade, so I suggest you to press and hold reset button for 30 sec, to put back your x1 firmware, or if that doesn't help, contact your Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router contractor and/or your ISP, and ask them to downgrade your Router. Just to notify, encryption can't defect your connection at all, since all ports on router are always opened if wired for your host pc's :)

Hope this helped and/or advised you on your next move. Please rate my solution, thanks in advance. Wish you good day

Whats a wpa key? I have tried connecting to my router on my wireless device and my wireless device ask's for a wpa key? is it the same as a lan key?

WPA <<===>> WIRELESS PROTECTED ACCESS

You need to use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to the router, and then access the web-server inside the router, and then run the "Wireless Networking Setup Wizard". When you do, you will set:

* the SSID ("network name") -- pick anything you prefer
* the encryption-level (hint: use 'WPA')
* the password for the network -- pick anything you can remember

Then, from a wireless device, do a "View Available Wireless Networks".
Select the SSID, and enter the password, to make a connection.

Cannont connect wireless router to computer

The wireless authentication key is your wireless router's encryption key. You need to configure the wireless card in your computer with this encryption key. You cannot access the wireless router unless this encryption is correct.

When i try to connect my sons laptop i am prompted for the security key . i then recieve this message. wireless authentication failed because of a timeout

Hello,

First of all make sure you are typing the correct security keys. If you are then just disconnect the power from the router for 15 seconds and plug it back in. This should work.

Hope this helped.

Hi do you know how I can connect my lap top to the internet wireless with my linksys wireless router ? the lap top asks for an access code and I do not know what it is or how to find it do you know how to...

The access code or password is the encryption key in your wireless router, without this key the wireless router won't allow the laptop/computer to connect to this wireless router.
The WEP, WPA, WPA2 encryption key is in your router's wireless settings. Log into your router and got to the wireless settings, you will need to get the SSID and the encryption key. Then go to your computer/laptop's wireless card and configure it with the router's SSID and encryption key, so it will then connect to the wireless router and the Internet.

Broadband wireless adapter limited connectivity issues

If the wireless security on the router is enabled, then the pre-shared key or encryption key on the router and PC should match.

To check the wireless settings, use the laptop to access the web interface of the router. Follow the steps below:

1 Using your Internet browser, go to http://dsldevice.lan or to the IP address of your router (by default: 192.168.1.254).
2 On the Home Network menu, click Wireless.
3 In the upper-right corner, click Details.
4 The wireless Access Point page appears. Under:
- Configuration, you can find the network name (SSID).
- Security, you can find the encryption.

On the PC wireless, access the wireless network connection. Select the SSID and then type the encryption key or pre-shared key.

Once the encryption key on the PC and router matches, then you should obtain an IP address and get online.

Speedstream 6300 network key

Wireless security is commonly performed by encryption using wep setting a network key. That key is to be shared by both the router and the network card to allow encrypted communications. If appears you have not provided the network key that was configured into wireless router to the wireless adapter card to allow them to exchange encrypted communications. The preferable solution would be to get the active network from the router and provide in to the wireless adapter in the prompt / request you were presented. This will protect you wireless network from access by those you have not shared the key with.
