Canon Elura 65 Camcorder Refuses to Load Mini DV Tape

Earlier today, the screen on the camcorder indicated that the tape should be ejected. When we did that and tried to reload it, the machine refused to load this or any mini DV tape. It will close when no tape is there. But when I put in the tape and move it into position to load, it hesitates, seems to process and then ejects the tape instead of loading.

The only suggestion in the manual is to take out the tape and reload. It refuses to reload. Any ideas?

My camera is the Elura 70. It worked fine 6 days ago. I brought it to a friends house 4 days ago but didn't use it. I wanted to burn video to dvd tonight, but when I turned the camera on it showed 'remove the cassette' on the screen. I have never had this problem before. I haven't taken the cassette out of the camera in a about a month.
    Thanks,
    Neal

Try a different tape in case the take up isn't working in the previous tape.

Clean the tape heads with a tape cleaner in case there is buildup on the pinch rollers causing the tape to jam or slip.

If those solutions don't work, you should take it into a repair shop to have a closeup view as to what the problem is unless you see something obvious like a spring broken or loose or a bent piece or foriegn objects in the deck.

Tape won't load. I just ejected it and it won't reload.

Try unplugging your camcorder from any type of power source. Leave it unplugged for about 10 minutes and try again (this will act like a reset button, which your camcorder doesn't seem to have one). If this does not work, you will need to have the camcorder repaired by an experience technician. There are lots of components inside the mechanism that could go bad or get damaged. Hope this helps you.

I have a Canon Elura 65 mini DV camcorder. When I

I had this problem and I only ejected a cassette. I tried new and old cassettes. Same result as you experienced.
What I did and I again don't condone striking electronics as a means to repair them but, at the advice of another post and having tried everything I could think of, I stuck the bottom of the camcorder with the palm of my hand several times and it worked. I don't know why it worked and it really shouldn't have but it did.
I think the real problem is a cleaning/lubrication and ultimately should see service by a local trusted shop. Try it I had nothing to lose and it worked for me.....

I have an Elura 90. The cassette door opens but

When ejecting the tape you must hold the eject switch down for a full second. There are two stages to the eject process just as there are with the insertion of a videocassette. Hold the button in position long enough to hear the motor mechanism start.

Record button doesn't function

You may want to check the record lockout safety switch located on the tape. This button can get moved by accident and the camera will refuse to record on that tape. Also, be sure the camera is in "video" mode, not "photo" mode. Some of Canons camcorders have a digital still camera mode which stops the camcorder from functioning because the photos are being recorded to a memory card and not your tape, please check this swithc as well. Playback & Ejection Problem

Hi, You usually get an EJECT TAPE when the camcorder has found an internal problem and either the videocassette or the camera itself has developed a problem. In you case, it looks like you tape has a problem. Daniel
