    Same problem here. Tech came this morning and said the bearing is going out. I have only had it 2 1/2 years and now we get to fight over whether warranty is going to cover it since they have to replace the entire drum.

    I have the same problem, it sounds like a jet plane! Service tech says the bearings are bad because we have been using too much detergent, and the excess detergent washed the lubricant from the bearings. Sounds more like a design flaw to me. The door has opened on its own a couple of times flooding our laundry room, and the timer goes from 3 minutes left back to 9 minutes and keeps on repeating this.

    Once I hear the sound of the 'airplane' how long do I have before it quits working? I am short on cash--and would like to wait if possible to fix. Will there be further damage to the machine if I use it--the washer seems to be working fine except for the noise...

    Thank you.

Hi Neptune owners,

Don't forget to change your door latch wax motor. Here is a song that will help you www.neptunehelpsong.com.

I am having the same problem. The whinning sound is coming from the door switch. I will replace that switch and see what happens.

If it's a roaring noise, the tub bearing is probably wearing out. Spin the tub a little with your hand, if you hear a little of the roar, that's it.

Exessive noise when in spin cycle?

Could be dirty bearings. As long as it is still spinning, it is nothing to worry about. If it suddenly stops one day, it is probably frozen bearings or the brushes in the motor.

Humming or buzzing during wash and spin cycles.

it's the motor that makes the humming sound..it may have difficulty in starting..when starting like this the motor draws more current and this may cause the windings to burn out..try reducing the load..if the sound disappears then indeed the capacity of the motor is deteriorating...take out motor and clean bushing and lubricate.. also realign belt ..

Loud sounds coming from the washer on spin cycle

That is a characteristic of bearings gone bad. You should look into replacing the bearings.

Loud noise

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary

Hope it may help you;

Loud noise on spin cycle

How did that answer get an 83% rating? It is absolutely useless. My washer has the exact same problem as described above.During the spin cycle it sounds like a jet engine. It kinda sounds like the belt hitting the drive wheel but may be bearings in the motor.

Mine was doing this and my husband tightened the huge bolt on the back of the drum. This is where the belt attaches. Evidently this bolt when loose can cause that outrageous sound.
