Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Thanks for the butter knife suggestion

I am in lakewood, and again, ya know what I did? I just reversed the stinkin hoses and am washing on the warm/warm cycle which is of course cold cold being that the hot water is dead , better than a sharp stick in the eye for now. I heard that frigidaire washers are notoriously razor sharp, I was told by one repairman that its almost as if frigidaire doesnt own a metal file or metal sander in the whole corp. and you know when you are sent out on a frigidaire repair you are gunna get cut, gloves too bulky for the fine toothed motor skills, I have never seen a repairman doning a pair of gloves EVER, but plenty of battle wounds. So for now, longer story longer, I am going to be happy to wash in just cold, s-h-i you know the last letter, I am hard pressed to get into these guts, wires and such, I know nothing about this stuff, I am not a repairman, and as much as I would love to fly a rocket to the moon, simply the desire to do so doesnt make me an astrounuat no matter how many step by step instructions I am given. I know my limitations now, seeing the **** of taking that back panel off, it looks as though I have to remove the top front and back the way it is all put together, if you know of any good repairmen in southern california lemmie know.I can order the part I dont know if that would take the first two hundred off lol seriously I will purchase a brand new washer for the costs here for the replacement of that stinkin valve, it really is crappy, i think i would find great joy in pushing the washer over the cliff before i hand over the family food shelter gasoline and utilities money...I am sure I am not the only one in this boat,so unless you see any reason why i should at this point go on and attempt to repair it myself do you think I can get away with the washing in cold or is it a matter of only a short while before the other side goes out? i just dont get it. I am not going to test ohms nor the continuity at the switch, i have absolutely NO CLUE as to what I am doing, the back of the washer looked scarey enough the hoses scared me, I know sad, I hope you got a good laugh out of my attempt at the big boys stuff, this is why I am against womens libbers, I know my place and I am grateful as hell to all the men in the world who take good care of us women truely, this is guy stuff, I am going to go make banana pudding for our dessert and start marinating our chicken for our grilled lime cilantro garlic chicken and wash a couple more loads of laundry clean the front and back bathroom give a couple of kids baths set my hair feed the 90lb dog and the cats and finish putting away the costco stuff and somewhere between all of this wrap up the painting in the front room, i start school next week and i am carrying a full load of classes so s..h....i....you know the rest. Buying a new one looks better and better.

If I switched it out what good would that do? I am only on cold cold because I turned the switch on the top to warm/warm,and just reversed the hoses at the wall not the machine...I really dont care if the ****** says warm/warm,I know what it really means and trust me the fat chances around here of anyone going near the washer....let me catch my breath I had to get back on the chair here I fell off laughing...trust me, not a snowballs chance in hell of anyone else doing any laundry ..still laughing..thank you for all of your help..ps it wont cause any problems like electrical fires or any stuff like that if i still use the washer when the hot cylenoid is out will it? I was thinking about what you said about switching the wires around but then i would only be washing in hot no thats not right ...see what happens when i think about this stuff...just talking about it confuses me...i dont mean to sound like a helpless girl and trust me, i have taken many a group of kids out beach camping by myself without anyone to set up camp for me, just the kids and me,so having said that, I would like to still have your expertise about the fire risk if i continue to use the washer just with the hoses switched at the wall no big deal right? i just unhooked the hot hose at the wall and put it on the cold one at the wall and remembered to put the cold hose at the wall faucet and attached it to the hot wall faucet, I was told by someone you simply never ever leave that dead one dangling water can still find a way out of it,so I did as I was told. so here is there any reason to believe if i did purchase the part that that is exactly what is wrong?is it scarey to attach. I am such a clean freak after washing in cold several days I am so unhappy with the laundry especially with the teenagers and stuff, just yukky I need the hot water,so if i purchase the part is installing it a really big job, please be frank with me, I have been totally honest with you regarding unsureness, could a girly girl like me do it?write back love, thank you for being so patient with me, you are wonderful.

When i try and start the washer it hums it won't fill it spins just won't fill

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Turn off the water at the wall connection remove the hoses noting the positons of HOT and COLD. Then clean the inlet screens in the water valve. (lift out by using a knife blade on the outside of the screen) Wash the screens by rubbing your fingers ofer them under slow running water then reinstall them.

Before you start try a hot wash.. and then cold wash to see if either has water coming into the machine. If it works there is a way to back flush the water valve using a warm water wash. You remove one hose and stick it in a bucket. Turn ON the other hose and let water flow into the bucket while gentily tapping on the hose connection with a screw driver HANDLE. Reverse hose connections and repeat hose in bucket and tapping on hose connection. Reconnect both hoses then try HOT and COLD wash fill cycles. Let me know what happened.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Maytag Atlantis leaking water, not from hoses - solution?

Hi this could be coming from a number of places. First get putty knife or possible a butter knife and pop the top. There are 2 clips holding it on they are at the top front about 2" in from the corners... Push in knife and pull up on top at the same time...Fold the top back out of the way and observe inside to see where the water is leaking. If it is coming from underneath you may need to remove the front to screw top left and right then fold out and up to remove. Observe underneath to see where the leak is.
If I can help with anything else please let me know.

Water won't stop running washer runs over will not agitate

It sounds like the fill switch is either disconnected from the detection hose, or broken.

To open the machine, press the spring clips inward with a butter knife or putty knife, and lift up the top panel. You may need a flashlight to see where the clips are, but they are in the crevice between the top panel and the front panel, on the left and right sides. Once lifted you should find a thin hose that leads from the side of the barrel to the switch in the control panel. Pull it off the switch and blow into the hose to make sure that it isn't clogged. Put everything back together, and if it does it again, you need a new switch.

Removing the agitator from my Kenmore Elite top-load washer

Hi, Just tap on the softener dispenser to free it up. Sometimes they stick because of the softener. YOu might try and pry it off with a butter knife. There should be a 7/16" bolt to remove.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Coins stuck in washer

I've used a butter knife or putty knife to pry them up.. just enough to allow the coins to slide back out. Just roll the drum back and forth with the knife wedged in there. Good Luck.

Water wont drain /wont spin out

  • assuming it is a top loader
  • it sounds like something is stuck in the water pump.
  •  if the water does not drain then it will never spin.
  •  take off the front panel (with a butter knife, push in the two metal clips in the front seam between the top panel and the front panel. this will release the front panel from the machine.
  • the water pump is located on the right side in the front.
  • before removing the hoses attached to the water pump get as much water out of the machine as possible so it does not spill on the floor.
  •  then take off the hoses and check inside the pump thoroughly; even a string might cause the pump to get stuck.
  • let me know if you need more help

Leaking from the front

take a butter knife and release the two clips on the top of the front panel (look in the seem between the top and front panel and push the butter knife directly into the clips), this will release the front panel from the machine. then you can see where the water is coming from.
