Forgotten password for wifi network

Which operating system ??
Your wireless Internet password is the encrypted security pass phrase that was set up when you installed your wireless router.

Your router allows you to access the Internet.
If you have access to more than one wireless network, you may need to remember multiple passwords.

If you happen to forget one password, you have two options: reset your password or locate the current password.

Windows 7 allows you to view the security characters of all your wireless network passwords.
Click the "Wi-Fi" network icon located on the Window's taskbar.

Right-click the name of your network's "SSID" name and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Click the "Security Tab." The network security key is now visible but unreadable.

Click the "Show Characters" check box and this will reveal your wireless password.

Reset My WiFi Password

Wireless networking is a common feature in homes and offices.
Wireless routers provide access to a single Internet source, and wireless passwords ensure that only select users can access the network.

If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.

Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser.

Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.

Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."
Enter your username and password.

Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings. Disable the wireless security.

Reset to Factory Defaults

Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.

Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.

Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

Can't find my password to connect my new ipad to my Belkin network. What can I do?

I'm assuming you are referring to the pass phrase or key on the router. Originally setup when you added security to your home wlan. Find the manual online for the Belkin router and reset it to factory defaults. Then set it up again with a pass phrase you can remember.

Thanks for posting. First reset the modem by pressing the reset button, then connect to the admin page of the router, normally the gateway IP (http://192.168.1.1). The you will find the WAN (isp) settings. Enter your login info for your isp and clone your mac address, normally under advanced. __________________

I,m trying to install netgear,so i can go wireless ,and when it asks for my network key ?i dont know it

you make it up yourself, for example choose wpa and then type in a phrase which will generate a key which you make note of, then type in your pc's to connect to the net, or you choose not to secure the network, therefore no need for a network key.

Can't remember security phrase for netopia 3347 nwg to add another computer

Are you talking about your wireless pass key, if nessesary connect a PC directly to your Netopia and reset the pass phrase through the routers control panel/gui, remember you will need to reset all pc conections to the new phrase. If you haven't made any IP changes to the netopia, the default settings are likely to be 192.168.1.254, just use your explorer to browse to this address

I purchased a Belkin N1 Wireless USB adapter recommended to me by PC World but it is not working correctly. It WILL locate my network but will NOT allow internet access on it. I did ask specifically in the...

Hi there!

Theoretically, it should work with each other. I didn't find any documentation at Belkin's site that states the N1 USB adapter being not compatible with 3rd party devices like your Netgear router.

From what I know is N-Draft's wireless technology should be backwards compatible with both wireless-B and wireless-G devices.

1. Do you have other working wireless devices at your network during that time that you have the N1 USB adapter?
2. Were you able to connect to your wireless network? If Yes, what was your IP address at the wireless computer incase you had the chance to check it?

Maybe you can try to inquire with Belkin about what you've encountered with their device for clarification.

Hope this helps!

I was wondering if you could tell me if i could track people that are useing my wireless router

You can track their mac address, but will not be able to detect where they are accessing it from. The best way to defend against unwanted guests is to secure the connection with a passphrase. You will need to log into your router, go into wireless settings, security, and choose between wpa and wep encryption. I suggest wpa personal, then choose a pass phrase that only you will remember. In order to connect to your wireless router, the pass phrase will have to be entered.

If you do not have the manual for your router, let me know and I will give you further instructions on how to log in.

Wireless Router

If you clicked repair connection at anytime, you need to reset the router, by way of a reset button on the rear or front, go to your wired network card properties in control panel>network connections, click TCP/IP line, click properties again and select obtain ip address automatically. At this point you can run the setup wizard again if you wish using the rj45 cable You should set up the router using an RJ45 lan cable which comes with the unit and get into the routers settings by typing it's ip address in your web browser 192.168.0.1. Check that DHCP is set at enabled to give your pc's an automatic ip address. Check that wireless is also enabled and save any changed settings. Go to the properties of your pc's wireless adapter in control panel network connections and on its TCP/IP line check that obtain ip address automatically is ticked. when you have set up your wireless connection and the router is set up correctly, disconnect the rj45 cable and if neccassary dissable the wired network card so as the router looks for your wireless adapter and gives it an ip address. When a connection is found by your wireless connection you need to go into the router again and set up your wireless security, using whatever method you choose eg WEP or WPA PSK. You need to select the numbers and letters mixture pass phrase that you use for encyption and use the same numbers in the wireless adapter when it asks for the passkey no., you should then be able to connect again securely.
