Re: monitor works on and off
After usual overheating the capacitors, the weakest spot in FPD1830 are
four chip resistors located in the inverter board a bit above the
middle, you can recognize them as they are bigger than others and
located all four in one row. Holding by tweezers simply re-solder them
to get rid of micro-cracks in the tin between pads and resistor

The power supply, the inverter, or the lighting tubes may be defective. I would bet that you need some new capacitors in the power supply or possibly some transistors. Those are the two main failure points that cause the quick power supply shutdown. It detects overload and tries to save itself from total destruction by shutting down.
I bet on capacitors, especially if you never turn the power off but let it sit in standby all the time.
has to do with power i can get myin to stay some times but then the same thing hapens to me u have to buy a new power board wich is esy to replace and i have had min as a second screen for like 4 or 5 years now with no probloms so its just from over use..
I have repaired similar FPD models. I have one of them on this very desk. The GatewayFPDmodels develop problems after a couple or more years of use. The repairsare fairly easy for the savvy technician. The power inverter board inthe back of the monitor contains some capacitors, they may be470 and220 mfd or 680 mfd depending on when they were made, @ 10 16 or25volts, with a 105 deg. C temp rating. They go bad due to heatissues and the currents they have to filter. Replacement of thecapacitors usually restores operation. Use capacitors of the sameratings as original for replacement.
Be advised, turning the monitor off when you are not using it will extend the life between these repairs.
Usually in these cases the power supply would be the issue, but you say the OSD window shows up clearly, So the LCD panel is good and the Power Supply /inverter depending on which your FPD has. FPD 1830 should have 3 boards(logic, Inverter, Power) otherwise just 2(logic, power)
If it is super dim, the problem is the inverter. Or the Power Supply if the inverter is embedded
Otherwise what your issue is the logic board, if you can swap out that part for a good one, Chances are for sure that you will have a spanking new FPD working.
I've worked with these a lot. Im working on one right now. I hope this helps Wish you luck Victorsinferno45
