Question about PC Desktops

I have a D-Link DI-524 router. I bought it a few years ago but found out I couldn't use it with AOL. I'm trying again to set it up since I'm now getting DSL from Bell South. I have wired it according to directions but the WLAN light keeps blinking? I did punch the reset button to see if that would help but didn't see anything different. I am connected to the internet but when I type in my IP address for the d524 nothing comes up? Help?

Check your IP address first.
Click start then run then type in CMD
in the command prompt type in ipconfig then hit enter
Your default gateway is the IP of the DLINK

if that does not work.
press the reset button for 10 seconds then pull out the power
Wait 5 seconds then plug the power back in.

To access the setup page easier
Click start then run then type in HTTP:// IP of the DLINK

Its important to know your network structure and any firewall setted from your side or your service provider - May be firewall restricting you from connecting to AOL

ok, i had the same problem

the details should be:
username: poweruser
password: password
(yes, the password actually is password, once you connect you can change the password later by typing in the address of the router into a browser, using the details to log on to the router and have a look at the settings)

if the details dont work, google "default login for <router company name and model: for example: Netgear CG123456 (this one doesnt exist, i made up the model number) >"

hope this helps

I have a d-link router di-524 how do i set security to control or stop others using it to connect to the internet

>connect to the router using an Ethernet cable (looks like a phone cord but fatter, router configuration is not recommended via wireless connection)

>click start -> run then type in the box that pops up "cmd" without the quotes and hit OK

>black box (command prompt) on screen, type "ipconfig" again without the quotes.

>look for the Default Gateway address (that's the router) and type that exact address in Internet Explorer.

>now you'll have the router's configuration page, look for Wireless then the Security option will be presented to you.

>self explanatory setup. good luck

IF YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK ACCESS POINT IS CONNECTED BUT YOU CANT GET ONLINE,YOU WILL NEED TO GO TO YOUR DLINK ONLINE ROUTER SETTINGS PAGE AND CHANGE YOUR PASSPHRASE KEY WHICH YOU NEED TO CONNECT THE ACCESS POINT TO THE WIRELESS ROUTER.BEFORE YOU DO THIS THOUGH,OPEN UP THE NETWORK CONNECTIONS WIZARD ON YOUR LAPTOP AND VIEW"AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS".IF YOU SEE YOUR NETWORK LISTED,HIGHLIGHT THE NETWORK AND PUSH THE CONNECT BUTTON.WINDOWS WILL ASK YOU FOR A PASSPHRASE OR PASSWORD.ENTER THAT AND CLICK CONNECT.YOU SHOULD THEN GET CONNECTED TO THE WEB.IF YOU DONT HAVE A PASSPHRASE OR PASSWORD,THAT IS WHY YOU CANNOT CONNECT THRU THE ROUTER AND YOU WILL THEN NEED TO CREATE A NEW PASSPHRASE AT THE D-LINK WEB SETTINGS PAGE.GOOD LUCK.

AOL broadband connection

The answer is very simple ... Uninstall the AOL browser, you do not need it to connect to the internet, AOL's browser, as I have discovered chokes your bandwidth and slows down your PC. I would strongly recommend using something like Firefox (you can add the AOL toolbar if needed). I removed AOL's browser over a year ago and have not had a single problem, bespite the fact that AOL insist I must have it installed on my PC ... Absolute rubbish.

I have my router wireles d-link but i dont have a cd for instal the software i want a software for configure my router d-link DI-524

Hello ,
Actually you do not need a software to configure it. Connect it to your PC with network cable and type in Internet Explorer : 192.168.0.1
And by entering ADMIN user with default (should be ADMIN as well) password you should come to setup page of your router.

For more details pls refer to :

D-link router DI524 using next G external wireless modem

You can purchase a usb wireless dongle and attach to the PC. From then onwards you can set up a wireless network without connecting the usb cable for the router. The dongle will enable wireless capabilities on the pc. The only thing left is to have all devices running in the same workgroup.
