Ok, well I am able to do nothing more than access a boot menue that pops up when I hit esc as the compaq screen pops up when I turn the laptop on. I dealt with the fact every thing on the computer wa lost, so I reset all default settings, and did what I thought was neccessary to make it try to boot up from the Windows xp disc that was in it and that didn't work either. ?????

Turn computer on and in a couple of seconds it shuts down. Please give me an idea what it could be..Thanx

Hit F8 before boot-up to enter the windows bootup menu. Select safe mode. You should see a list of drivers loaded, and then windows should load up. If it doesn't shut down, you can open the event viewer to see what errors happened when it automatically shut down.

This should help pinpoint what piece of software is the problem.
Also, if you have just recently added new ram chips, one or more of them could be bad. A service tech would have to check that for you.

I need to down load Windows picture and fax

This should be included with your installation of Windows Vista. If you want to reinstall Windows Picture and Fax viewer program, try the following.

1. Click on Start - Run and then type : regsvr32 /u %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll.

2. Once you have done, then again, Click on Start - Run and type: regsvr32 /i %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll.

This will reinstall Picture and Fax viewer.
