Four month old Acer Aspire 5336-2634 and the computer doesn't recognize the DVD/CD drive. I tried system restore and driver updates, but no luck. Any suggestions to get my computer to see the drive?

I did both solutions and neither fixed the issue. It says its not recognizing the cd driver and when it tries to install it says its unsuccessful. It says the CD driver has a problem. What kind of problem could it be? I've used the driver twice since I got the darn thing!!

  • desireeroman May 10, 2011

I did both solutions and neither f ixed the issue. It says there is a problem with the CD driver and the installation was unsuccessful. I've tried several times to install the driver but no luck. I've only used the CD two or three times since I bought it. What else could be the problem? Is there another way to install the driver?

  • desireeroman May 10, 2011

There isn't any identifiable info on the dvd drive that tells me make or model. I'm not sure if there is someplace else to find this info. It just says DVD super multi DL drive and the only numbers i see on the drive is ABS+PC R5 INP 28-1. I'm not sure what clean mode means. The exact message says: Device Driver software was not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.

  • desireeroman May 10, 2011

I assumed clean mode was the same as safe mode? I got this info in safe mode: Error code 39. and deviceinfo: IDE/CDROMHL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GT32N____1.00____4&D22C5F5&0&0.10
also another message that said: Problems with PnP devices. Does this help?

This finally worked! Except that clicking on "fix hardware and devices" didn't install the driver and I actually had to click on "Play my cd/dvd, Burn dvd." Thanks so much!

Welcome to FixYa!
I assume that you have a Windows 7 operating system.
Solution 1. Run the "Auto detect and fix utility" of Windows 7. Click start, then type "find and fix problems" in the search box. On the results, click "find and fix problems with devices".

  • A windows will show up, click "next".
  • It will try to detect and fix a non functional device that is attached or inside the computer.

Solution 2. Do an online auto fix from Microsoft. Keep me posted. Thanks for using FixYa.
Have a great day. Jas247

Please provide me with the exact error message when you try to install the driver.

I suspect that "something" is blocking the driver installation.

Here's what what we are going to do next:

Restart the computer in clean mode, which means temporarily disabling the programs that are being loaded on the startup of the computer.

Determine the model and manufacturer of the CD/DVD drive that you have.

Download and install the correct and updated driver.

But before that, please provide me with the exact error message when trying to install the driver to make sure we are on the right track.

Restart your computer in clean mode:
    Click "Start".
Type "msconfig" in the search box.
Click "msconfig" in the search results above.
System Configuration Window will show up.
    Click on "Services" tab.
Check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services" on the lower left corner of the window.
Uncheck all the boxes in the body of the window.
    Click on "Start up" tab.
Uncheck all the boxes in the body of the window.
Click on "Apply" at the bottom of the window.
    Click "OK"
It will prompt you to restart.
    Click "Restart:.

Do Windows Update after the restart:
    Click "Start".
Type "windows update" in the search box.
Click "windows update" from the results above.
The Windows Update window will open.
    Click "Check for updates"
The computer will automatically check for updates (This may take some time).
    Click "Install Updates".
This will take longer than checking for updates. Please be patient.
On the process of updating, you might be prompted to restart your computer several times and you might experience slow shut down and boot up. It is normal during the updating stage.

    Keep me posted.

I bought a Acer Aspire Am3470g-uw10p it came with no re-install Cd's, Is there anyway to restore this computer without using a CD.

You need to get a recovery CD for your model laptop from Acer.
Download the recovery CD and device drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure you select the model of your laptop the drivers you that require that matches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

My dvd drive doesn't work

If it happens for only one particular disk:
Bring that disk to a game store like Gamestop or Rock30 Games and have them professionally clean the disk for a couple bucks.

If it happens for all disks:
Clean the cd/dvd with a laser lens cleaning kit. If that doesn't fix it then the cd/dvd drive will need to be replaced.

Check to see if your laptop recognizes it. Right click on 'My Computer' and go to properties. Click Hardware and go to Device Manager. Click on CD/DVD and see if you see yours in there. If not, you will need to get drivers for it.

If you see it, try restarting the laptop. Aside from taking the laptop apart to reseat the drive, it will need to be replaced.

Cd/dvd driver

Hi

cd/dvd drive doesn't require drivers at all, the drivers come with windows and if you are missing or corrupt drivers on the cd / dvd drive then

try this:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r548399-fix_non_working_cd_dvd_shows_in_device

if that doesn't solve the problem then use the windows cd to install windows to the computer again and start over or use the restore cds to restore the computer.

Acer aspire 5315 laptop cd/dvd drive stop working like there was none

This will be one of two things, 1- a driver glitch, you will need to uninstall the drivers for the cd/dvd drive from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the drive and reinstall the drivers automatically. This will fix it if it's a driver problem. You can also try any updated driver utilities, or patches for the drive from Acer's support site. 2- the cd/dvd drive has failed and needs replaced. These are basically plug and play devices, they either work or they don't, so a majority of the time when the machine stops recognizing the drive, it's because the drive has malfunctioned. Unfortunately, these drives are considered sealed units and replacement parts aren't available.
