I was taking pictures and the camera just shut off. I thought it may be the batteries, so I put new batteries in and it came on but now will not shut off. The lens is extended and the red light comes on...

I have the same problem. If you get a solution please let me know at corsica2001@shaw.ca thanks! It just happened today! Seems all the hp 945's are burning out at the same time!

HP Photosmart M425 Lens error

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Hp photosmart 945 lens is stuck

Looks like the large lens cannot get it's lense out with the electric drive. This is operated by a little motor with gears. The clicking sound is from gear-teeth. Your guide shaft (3 of them) may be blocked by sand or dust or broken guide-pins.
Once the large lens is fully out. The small internal lens will be moved in and out for zoom. I have recently fully dissassembled my broken HP945 which was fallen on its lens in extracted mode (under charge from docking station). If you want pictures how it looks inside, let me know. rene_bdm@solcon.nl

Hp945lens

Hi Do you use a lens tube? You need one of these so the lens does not hit the screw on lens when it extends. Quite cheap on ebay etc. Standard 55mm thread.

Hope this helps

Fitting a different lens

This camera doesn't allow interchangeable lenses. Any "wide angle lens" would screw onto the front of the existing (non-removable) lens as an additional lens element.

Camera won't work

HP technical Support is the 1st place to go - in case there is a repair/replacement solution. If the camera is over a year old - an economical repair is unlikely
