1994 Yamaha XV 535 Virago DX Logo
Posted on May 09, 2011

My Virago XV535 was in winter storage and now the front cylinder only fires up on a higher rev than idle. With choke on, it contunues to run, but without it stalls. Back cylinder operates normal. Both sparkplugs are fine (replaced them and spark is OK) Carburator issue ?

Sounds like a pilot jet problem. Pilot jet runs first 1/4 of throttle opening, main jet the other 3/4. Take out pilot jet (usually the smaller one next to the bigger main jet) and leave it in a cup of neat petrol overnight. By morning it should be ok.

Yamaha xv 1100 virago

To me it sounds like the coil is breaking down and not working at higher RPM's. You can take them off and have them tested at a service shop.

I have a 1985 Yamaha Virago and the front cylinder is back firing and it breaks up at low RPM

Yes, the problem is likely the "low/idle fuel circuit". There's choke, idle, and hi rpm fuel "circuits" (not as in electrical). The idle clogs first since its small, and the front cylindar seems to go first on this bike. rebuild w/gaskets. 3 hours shop labor = ~ $240. good luck.

1984 aspencade starts w/choke and revs up, runs smooth. Take off

My 'wing won't run unless it has been warmed up some. I would suggest that you r&r your carbs to make sure the jets in the bottom are working correctly. They tend to get plugged up, especially after sitting & the aluminum flaking off inside... Rick

Yamaha xv535 wont idle off choke

****, squeeze, bang, blow... check filter, fuel and spark... its going to be prob a fuel problem. if the bike hasnt been running all winter run some gumout through it... and get rid of the fuel thats been sitting in the tank. more info would help but it sounds like you got varnish in your carb....
