if your device drivers are not up to date and are not compatible with the Operating system they will not install properly. contact the manufacturer for updated drivers and or compatibility information.
Can you reload last known good configuration? Tap F8 as the computer boots up to pull up safe mode, etc options. If that doesn't work, you're SOL. The fact you cannot even boot up safe mode pretty much means you're hosed. If you have files on that hard drive, I would recommend pulling the hard drive out and getting the data off w/ a hard drive adapter. Once all files saved, I would wipe the drive and reinstall the operating system. Sorry. Situations like that ****.

Media centre can use a numnber of codecs to do this job, you just need to make sure it has a choice. You need to download & install a codec pack. Microsoft has one which you can find on the website but the most comprehensive one is KL Codec pack. Google it & install the standard version, just use all the default settings & that will fix your problem.
Seems like a virus or spyware on the computer: Uninstall any existing security program like norton or mcafee by using their removal tools from http://pcsafety.us/ from the same site download and run AVG antivirus free, Super Antispyware - update and perform a complete scan on all the drives.
If these dont work you need to run combofix but that may crash your pc so keep it as a last resort.
You can take it to geek squad but they wond do all this they will simply format your harddrive and you lose all your data.

i would suggest that you either roll back your driver for the graphics card or do a system restore to a date previous to when the drivers were updated, this wil show in the system restore dates boxes.
You are probably running the generic windows driver for your graphics, it's better to see what updates you are installing before updating any hardware drivers.
