Speed Stream 5100 Modem -

I've connected a Speed Stream 5100 modem to a split phone line and it cannot get connection to the internet. Why?

Where do I get an AT&T approved phone line splitter if those you mentioned are no good? And, why is it if I run a 25 foot line to a regular phone outlet that is wired differently with a splitter on it, it works? I put that splitter into the problem phone jack and I still can't get a good connection. I'm tusing a Linksys SRX wireless broadband Router (Model WRT54GX) and a Speed Stream 5100 Ethernet ADSL Modem. Does how the jack boxes mater how they are wired?

You must use a phone company phone line splitter that is approved for DSL usage. If you use a radio shack or walmart phone splitter it will not work.

Call your isp and they can provide you with one. DSL is real funny on what will work and not, but the easiest and for sure thing is to get one from your isp. Make sure the line you put the isp splitter on is not a split line itself.

Can it be hooked up to internet via usb port

Can what be hooked up via USB? You have a picture of what appears to be a speed stream 4100 modem there but there is not enough detail to your question. If this is the 4100 Speed Stream modem then no you do not connect it via USB as it is an Ethernet based modem Can you clarify what it is that you are trying to do please.

Modem

Assuming that Windows has recognized the modem, and has loaded the correct device-drivers, Windows can use the modem.

You'll need to find an Internet Service Provider that provides "dial-up" service.

You'll need to have a land-line telephone (not a cell-phone) with your local telephone-company.

Connect a 4-wire cable (not an 8-wire Ethernet cable) from the "line" port on the modem to the telephone wall-jack.

Then, follow the instructions given you by your Internet Service Provider to configure your modem to connect to their dial-up server. Or, telphone them, and their Technical Support staff will guide you through the necessary configuration steps.

CAN YOU SPEED UP A SPEED STREAM 5100 OR UP DATE IT

1: all you can do in a modem that really works is reset.
2: Another option if you upgraded your computer to vista or windows 7 from xp.. you might need to get a firmware update done by your internet service provider.
3: get a frimware update from ISP an will set up your internet speed unless its a problem from backend.

My speedstream modem wont let me connect with wireless router

high this is a crazey fix but it might work it has done on two of my modems speedstream and speed touch and i track this problem down just so i could post this fix because i know what its like to pull your hair out over thease things its pretty simple and i know idear why it works but it has done for me
firstly if your with a internet provider and they have supplied you with a disk if your lucky it will have modem problem fixing file such as with tiscali
if like me you only get some way through it as it configures your modem hear it is take the phone of the receiver ie hook then it will configure your modem for you
if not lucky enough to have this on your set up internet cd you can still try it
by taking the phone of the hook and then rebooting your modem ie switching it of and on becarfel though it might be best if you closed your computer down first
1) take phone of hook
2)re boot modem
3)tern on computer /laptop
good luck

Yes i want to find out if a cable modem will work with your dsl phone internet service?

No.

A cable-modem connects with a coax-cable to the cable-company's network, but a DSL-modem connects with telephone-cable to the telephone-company's network.
