We've purchased a new computer for our 10 tear old. The first thing he did he logged in as an administrator and mispelled the password. Now the computer is useless, how can I overwrite what he did?

PC Restore or some thing like exist on a hidden partition on your hard drive that contains an exact copy of your computer's original setup. These programs allow you to reset your computer's operating system and software to the original state in which it was shipped to you.
Do the following actions to remove the recovery partition from the hard drive. WARNING: The drive will be reformatted and all user data erased. This action is not recommended. I DO NOT KNOW THE PASSWORD OR USERNAME FOR MY QWEST P5000Z MODEM . dONT KNOW WHERE TO START TO FIND IT OR CHANGE IT? PLEASE HELP! THANKS- AMY : )

what operating system ? and what type and brand of computer desktop laptop ?

Often many users will leave the administrator account alone or have other accounts with administrator rights. If you're not logging into the computer as administrator or have other accounts follow the below steps to reset your other accounts password.

Reboot the computer into Safe Mode.

When logging into Safe Mode you should be prompted with an option to what account you wish to use. Select the Administrator account. If prompted for a password try pressing Enter on the keyboard for no password. If this does not work, try other passwords you may have used. If you're unable to log into the Administrator account skip to the next suggestion.

Once you've logged into the Administrator account open Control Panel and User Accounts.

In User Accounts select the account you wish to change the password for, click change password and then enter the new password or click remove the password to remove the password from the account.

hope this helps

I have a Dell latitude e4310 laptop my 10 year old has somehow changed the password and locked my computer. Can you please help

If you haven't set a password for the Administrator account you could try to log in as an Administrator then change your password back. First you need to change how users log on.

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click User Accounts
5. Click Change the way users log on or off
6. Deselect Use the Welcome screen
7. Click Apply options

Exit Control Panel. Then Restart computer, hold F8 when rebooting and choose SafeMode when prompted.

When Log on Prompt appears type in Administrator as user and leave password blank ( this is the Windows default password)

This will let you boot into Windows where you can go back to Control Panel, User Accounts and change your account password.

Then just reboot normally and enter new password.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5130 and my 10 year old was playing on it and some how he changed my password so now i am not able to access my laptop is their a master password that i can use

Go to Microsoft Support and get a fix.

If you forget your Windows password or if your password expires, you must reset your password before you can log on to your computer.
You can reset your password, if one of the following condition is true:
  • You can log on as an administrator to assign a new password to your account. To do this, try Method 1.

Note When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank.
  • You have previously created a password reset disk for the computer. To do this, try Method 2.
If you do not have a reset disk or cannot log on as an administrator, unfortunately, you may have to reinstall Windows XP and all other programs that were installed on the computer before you can use the computer again. This is for security. Without these safeguards, anyone could reset a password to anyone else's computer and gain access to private information.

I"ve created a password on

You can salvage your old user account by logging on as the "Administrator" user. Once you're logged in as the admin, you can reset your old user password. The Administrator user (by default) is similar to a "superuser" and has the highest access level to reset any user password.
If you don't know what your Administrator password is, you can reset that by rebooting into Safe Mode.

The best option here is to reset your account password. You can do this using either 1 of the 2 methods suggested by Microsoft Knowledge Base article #321305. In my opinion, the second method described on this page is most likely the easiest route:
Reboot Windows in Safe Mode.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK: control userpasswords2
Click the user account that you forgot the password for, and then click Reset Password.
Type a new password in both the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and then click OK.
Good luck!
Side note: To access Safe Mode, Click Start -> Shutdown (or Turn Off), and choose 'Restart'. Once the computer restarts, press F8 repeatedly on the keyboard until a Boot Menu appear (this *must* be done before the Windows boot screen appears). Finally, choose to boot Windows in Safe Mode and press Enter on the keyboard.

HOW DO I REMOVE THE GUEST ADMINISTRATOR WITHOUT BEING AN ADMINISTRATOR ON MY COMPUTER SO I CAN DOWNLOAD THINGS ON MY COMPUTER

You question is not that specific so i can't give you the specific answer, there're several ways to configure this settings, but it depends on the Operating system you are using. If you are using windows Xp, log off from the desktop and press Ctrl+Alt+Del simultaneously on the login screen (sometimes you'll need to press several times), a small logon window will pop up, type administrator on the username box and if a password was set with the administrator, key in the password, or if there's none, just press enter after typing the "administrator". After you are logged in with the administrator account, go to control panel - user account - create new - and create an account (any username that you want to give) with the administrator privilege (rights) {you should select Computer Administrator}. Again log off and login using the new username and password (if you've set a password). Now with that account, you can do anything with your computer. If it's not Xp then the problem is difficult being without the administrator's rights. If you have another account with administrator's rights, then you can disable the Guest account. Good luck Thanks for using FixYa.

Changed my password and forgot it

I believe its f-10 during boot screen to access the restore partition....I do know its a F key so good luck......another thing you can do is press f-8 while booting...then restart the computer in safe mode, this should show the administration account and (providing you didnt password protect it) you can log in and access the control panel...then go to the user accounts section and delete the account in question, then create a new account (when you delete the old account save your files so you can access them from the new account. Hope this helps

There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password
You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

I have forgotten the password that i used when opening my account. please assist. thank you phill rogers

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
