Sharp Twin Energy EC-T2840 - no suction

When I plug in and turn on the vacuum, I have no suction and no sound (the light comes on so I know it is getting power). I have checked the belt and it is fine. Do I need to take it in for service or is there something I can do myself?

No sound - sounds th like the motor is frozen. this type of vac pulls the air threw the bag so by time i it gets to the motor the air is clean, unlike older vacs. it is possiable as well that a wire to the motor has become disconected. (unlikely) has the vac gotten wet at all or have you vacumed damp areas? it would be the only thing i can think of to lock up the motor. another good test and maybe the first is to take of the belt the brush might be bad and stoping the motor from spinning.

Unfortunately, this probably means that your motor is burned out, since the headlight is on the same circuit as the motor.
You can take it in for service, but replacement of a motor in a twin energy will probably be more money than it's worth, and that's assuming that the motor is available.
It's still worth taking in though, most places will give you free estimates, and repair techs are the best people to ask about new vacuums if yours is unsalvageable.

Best of luck,

I have a sharp twin energy, the hose isn't sucking very well, and just today it had a burnt plastic smell

This sounds like something is plugging the air flow. You need to take apart until you find it. Air flow also cools your unit.

I won't pick up dog hair. It seems to have plenty of suction when I detach the hose.

The reason it won't pick up is because the belt is worn. If the belt is stretched or worn it won't pick up well. Here is the belt you need for this model:

How can i keep the belt onmy sharp vacuum

If you have a rug that has tassles or open bits of "carpet tassles," this will injur ANY upright vacuum cleaner. Best way to vacuum a rug is to use a hose with a suction only floor head or small tool on the end.

Shuts off after a few minutes

Could be a bad wire, but most likely a motor going bad. If motor you would look at about $90 just for the part.

Vacume wont **** opened it up see nothing wrong HELP

If no suction usuallly means a clog, either in the hose and the dirt inlet by the brush roll. Sometimes if the belt is stretched, it won't turn the brush roll under load and it would seem like there is no suction.

Sharp upright vacuum EC-12SXT5

The inlet by the brush roll may be clogged. Alot of times the hose may be clear, but the inlet catches debris and clogs it. Did you drop something down the hose and did it dome out the other side? But if you unhook the hose and there is suction at the hose end, then it should be clogged in the inlet.
