Auto Aspect Ratio is a feature of the set that takes the signal in and determines if the signal is being broadcasted in 4:3 or 16:9 screen size and adjusts it automatically, you can turn it off or on in the tv's menu and either pick 4:3 (bars on the left and right side) or 16:9 (fullscreen) for no matter what signal is being broadcast

How can I get rid of the nasty wide horizontal line on the screen of our TV manufactured 2008...? Will It be expensive to repair...?

If by "nasty wide horizontal lines" you mean LETTERBOX masks (at the top and bottom of the screen), all you need to do is select the correct ASPECT RATIO for the program you are watching. Consult your USER MANUAL to determine the menu settings for ASPECT RATIO.
If you do not understand what "aspect ratio" means, or what different aspect ratios exist, do an Internet search for "aspect ratio" and read.

Motherboard for SHARP TV Model LC42LE620L

you probably have it set on wrong aspect ratio, go to menu/picture set it to auto it will then chose the right aspect ratio of the prog being shown/transmitted, if you have other devices running through it, make sure they are set to 16.9 or it will never look right, it is a simple mistake, sometimes there is 1 prog that never looks right, you can then roll though the pic settings manually, tiil you get the best fill of the screen, 4.3-16.9 14.2 Cinema-subtitles-etc cinema would give u a full screen of 4.3 but cut a bit off top & bottom, nothing is perfect with all the different aspects but Auto wiil do its best.

How do I stop the aspect ratio from auto changing on my flat screen set up as the monitor for my computer?

When you set it to just scan the source will determine the scan. I would remove the bose from the unit and connect the cable or sat box directly to the hdmi in of the tv. if the problem persists check Samsung web site for software upgrade. If upgrade does not fix replace the main circuit board.

I have a 50" Plasma

Hi, the aspect ratio is set incorrectly for the source material or the screen is simply set to 4:3 aspect (old TV size) manually. There will be a menu function or an aspect button on the remote for doing this. Set it to auto which is usually good enough for most viewing though the ratio may change during adverts and back again for the film on tv watching. This can be annoying so when on tv mode observe the ratio set when the film is on and manually set this ratio, usually 16:9. The display will normally tell you the ratio setting at the point of change so you can do this. I hope this helps.

I have a 55cm TFT LLED-22FHD TV. The aspect ratio is 16:9. This is too wide and the images appear fat. How do I correct this.

Go to the picture menu and select a different aspect ratio. Auto sizing is useful as the TV will detect the picture size and select the correct aspect ratio, except for letterbox and super wide screen of course as your screen is not the right shape for those.
Hope this helps.

The picture size resets when the tv is turned off then on.

It also resets when you switch to a different Input... IF you have the Auto Aspect Ratio set to On! To set the Picture Size so that it won't change back each time, switch to the Input you wish to change (you'll have to do this for each Input separately), then go to- MENU > Picture > Theater Settings > Auto Aspect Ratio > and set it to Off. Once you've done this, your Picture Size setting will remain, even after powering off, or switching inputs ;)
