Re: Playstation 3 problem
If it doesn't even load to the XMB or only gets to the XMB and freezes, then it's the hard drive. Remove the hard drive and try a different one. It will ask you to format it, say yes, then it will turn off and back on.
Also, just to keep up your machine, get some compressed air and use the straw it comes with to blow out your PS3 to remove most of any dust build up.

Sounds like a firmware issue. Happened to me after I had an update. I was told by Sony to wait for another update. Turned out it fixed the problem. Also check on your memory, if you're running low..delete some etc...might resolve. Lastly hold down the front power button for 5 seconds until you hear 2 beeps release it and this should reset. i had the same problem, unfortunatly the only way to solve it is to format it.unplug your usb cable from controller, turn ps3 off then switch on but hold down on button until you hear 2 beeps,it will then tell you to plug it usb cable to contoller and press ps button, follow instructions till you come to some options, select number 5.thats all you do.unfortunatly you will have to put back your router settings and playstation id as you will loose everything.hope this helps
your PS3 is freezing simply because your console is
affected by heat, so you have to cool it down. If the freezing
continues even after cooling down, you can follow the steps below:
stop the PS3 from Freezing, you could begin by putting off your console
and wait for 20 minutes. After that, put it back on. Check if
there's any loose cables. If there is, put them back in.
If the problem still persist, try the below steps,
Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system
will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been
shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4.
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will
be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS
button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery
Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. •
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. •
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. •
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore
PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. •
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System.

How long do you wait before you turn off your PS3 because in most games if you hit the PS button while the game is loading something or saving to your hard drive it may seem like it froze, but give it a minute and it should go back to normal
