I called the tech support phone number on the phones user guide. NOT METRO'S NUMBER!!!! I could get no help from them. Samsung's Support Techs were life savers.

How do tyou unlock your phone if you changed the setting to nam 2

So you're playing with all the settings in your phone and you notice this nice security menu. Wow, maybe you should enable the lock code. But you don't want to have to enter the lock code all the time, so you set your phone to only need a code when it turns on. Ah. Some piece of mind. What's this other sub-menu? Network? What's a NAM? Hmm. Let's set NAM 2 and see what happens. EEEK! Your phone's rebooting. Why's it doing that? Okay. Here's that new prompt for the security code. It's okay. I remember it's the last 4 digits of my phone number. Oh No! That didn't work. Unfortunately, when you switched to NAM 2, you switched your phone over to a different phone number. Your code's no good. Your phone is useless.

There are 2 solutions. The safest and best solution is to take your phone back to Verizon and have them reprogram it. A few people have told me Verizon is uninterested in doing this. A more risky solution is below. It will reset your phone to its original settings and erase all your phone numbers you have in the phone but it should get your phone working again. I've never had to fix this problem on my own phone, but a bunch of people have emailed me their thanks to say that this works. If this doesn't work or you make it worse, please don't blame me, especially if you don't follow the directions very carefully. I believe this proceedure works, but there is one mistake that if you dial a 9 at just the wrong moment, then you're going to be guaranteed making a trip to Verizon (so speaks the voice of experience). So, without further ado, here's the proceedure:
Do this exactly:

  • With your phone on, dial 47*68#13580
  • This will bring up a menu that says something like "-TEST CDMA-"
  • Dial 22
  • Your phone will now say "Send NAM 2"
  • Dial 222222 (the number 2, six times)
  • With each key press two digits will appear on your screen. Something like "000000-84100". Write down the 3 digits after the dash (e.g. 841). These are the first 3 digits of your unlock code.
  • Dial #
  • Dial 73
  • Your phone will say "Clear All." and it will just sit there for a while. Don't panic, just let it clear all the settings. It's not clearing the programming, just all the ringers and key beeps and menu settings that you entered (and more importantly, its reseting your password to something predictable). After about 30 seconds a "." will appear after the 73 you dialed. when that happens, the menus are cleared.
  • Dial 02
  • This will reboot your phone.
  • When the phone finishes restarting try the 10 possible security codes that start with the 3 digits you wrote down (e.g. 8410, 8411, 8412, 8413, ...). One of those codes should work.
  • When your phone is unlocked, switch back to NAM 1 by pressing Menu, 0 for Setup, 2 for Network, 1 for Set NAM, and select NAM 1.

When you change your setting to nam 2 how do you unlock your phone

Go to the keypad, type #43574357* (this number should work) and select system info, and it will display your nam2 phone number on the first (top) row labeled "MDN." The last four numbers is your passcode. This solution ONLY works if you've accidentally set your phone to NAM2 (which means that you've reprogrammed your phone to a completely different phone number, and if you've set up a passcode, that too is changed). Once you've found out your new number and passcode, you are not yet finished, because your phone is still programmed to NAM2. To fix that, you must go to your "Phone settings" and find "NAM select." Then you select NAM1 (and your phone will restart again and prompt you with your OLD passcode, if you set up one). Your phone is now fully functioning again!
