Troy Built Pony- will move in reverse but not forward.

There could be several reasons why a Troy Built Pony lawn tractor will move in reverse but not forward. One possible reason is a faulty transmission. The transmission is responsible for transferring power from the engine to the wheels, and if it is not functioning properly, the tractor may not move forward. Another possible reason is a broken or worn out drive belt. The drive belt connects the engine to the transmission and if it is damaged, the tractor may not move forward. Additionally, a damaged or worn out pulley can also cause the tractor to move in reverse but not forward.

To diagnose the issue, it is recommended to check the transmission fluid level and condition, inspect the drive belt for any damage or wear, and examine the pulleys for any signs of damage or wear. If any of these components are found to be faulty, they should be replaced immediately.

In conclusion, if a Troy Built Pony lawn tractor is moving in reverse but not forward, it could be due to a faulty transmission, a broken or worn out drive belt, or a damaged or worn out pulley. It is recommended to inspect these components and replace them as necessary.

Why won,t my toro z4200 zero turn mower go forward or back model#74360

Hi there, I assume the motor runs as usual, and doesn't cut out when you try to move forward or back. That would be a different problem than what I'm thinking about now:
If you look underneath at the transmission belt (this usually goes from the motor pulley to the rear transmission / diff) and see if it has fallen off a pulley, or disappeared completely. This would stop the forward or reverse drive of the mower. If this is the case, a new belt should solve your problem.

Depress drive pedal forward or reverse, tractor will not move

Assume it's a hydrostatic transmission - most probably the drive belt has come off or broken. Be sure to replace it with a Kevlar belt as changing the belt isn't easy and you don't want to have to repeat the process too soon.

Riding mower no longer moves.

If this is a hydrostatic transmission, one of 3 things:
1. Drive belt off pulleys (recommend replace belt if so)
2. Belt broken (obviously, replace)
3. Hydrostatic transmission failed (least likely, but this is an expensive repair shop issue if so)

This happened to my GT1554 two weeks ago - fortunately, replacing the belt resolve the problem.

Lawn mower was working fine now it will go into

  • check the belt - it could have broken or come off the pulley
  • tension spring may have broken or come off
  • after that - it could be any linkage from the shifter lever to the lever on the transmission
  • worse case your hydrostatic transmission failed, which is unlikely

Wont move forward or reverse-- transmission??

Does it have gears or a hydrostatic (automatic) transmission?

If it's a gear model, sounds like a loose drive belt.

If it's hydrostatic, it could be a belt problem or a problem inside the transmission. If it's a tranmission problem, this is not good. Many of the transmissions on riding lawn mowers are not serviceable - they are just replaced.

Suddenly stopped driving...

Check for a worn belt first. Then check the linkage. Next jack the unit up and try to run it forward and reverse with the engine running. If there is any movement at all in either direction then check the fluid level to see if it is up to the top.The worst case is the hydro. unit has a stuck check valve or something broken inside.Hope some of this helps. donnyb60
