New 164GB SD card when put in to either of my 2 cameras a message reinsert card appears on screen. No further operation can be done until card is removed. Can this problem be fixed?

The 64 GB cards are not SD cards. They are SDXC cards and need a different interface. The card lloks the same, but the electronics is different. Your camera or any device you are using should be SDXC compatible.
On this page, scroll down half a page and look how the compatibility works for SD, SDHC and SDXC.

Is saying sd card is full but when i put the card on the computer it says the sd card is empty how do i get it to work?

Most probably, the Camera might not detected the inserted SD card. Please find the option to format the memory in the Camera and perform. If not check whether the SD card is compatible with the Camera.. Otherwise, use a compatible one.

What is the largest SD card I can use? Is there a difference in SD and SDHC?

SD cards max out at 2GB and so the largest SD card you can use with this or any other camera is 2GB.
SDHC is a later extension to increase card capacity. It is backward compatible in that SDHC devices can also use SD cards, but not forward compatible in that SD devices cannot use SDHC cards.

What is the maximum SD size that will work with the DSC-4500Z camera?

The manufacturer of your camera specifies SD card compatibility without providing a specific number. This is not uncommon however, as the maximum size for SD cards is 2 GB. Cards that have a larger capacity than 2 GB in the "SD" format are "SDHC". Read the label of these cards (that have a larger capacity than 2 GB) that *look* identical to SD cards, and you'll see that they are in fact SDHC types. The SDHC card can have a capacity of up to 32 GB. A device that is compatible with the SDHC specification should be able to read any SDHC card *and* any SD card as well; because the standard requires "backward compatibility" to the older SD standard. A device that accepts SD cards should be able to read any SD card, *but* if an SDHC card be introduced to it, it may provide unreliable results (from being able to access only 2 GB of the capacity or not recognizing the card at all). Make sure your pictures are safe and don't get lost; use only SD cards in this camera.

I hope this helps!

Sd card

There are regular SD cards and high-capacity SD cards (HCSD). Some devices are not compatible with HCSD cards. It sounds like your camera is not compatible. You may still be able to purchase 2G & 4G regular format SD cards that will work fine.

I hope that helps.

Camera doesn't recognize the sd card, bypasses it

1) This camera accepts SD cards up to 4 GB in capacity. Most 4 GB SD cards however, are "SDHC" types (check the label to determine which type you are using). If you are using a 4 GB "SDHC" card, it may be causing the problem, as it is not an "SD" card. Furthermore, any card greater than 4 GB is not compatible with the camera. Any SD card with a capacity less than 4 GB should work without issue.

2) Check the position of the lock or "protect" tab on the side of a compatible SD card to be sure it is in the unlock position. The camera will be unable to write to a locked or protected card.

I hope this helps!

I install SD card and camera will not operate. Green lite indicates camera on. Works ok with SD card removed.

There can be a problem with the SD card itself. A bad sd isn't common but they do happen. What I would check is that the sd card is compatible with the camera. It can be too big or the wrong type or the wrong speed. As a result the camera can't read the card and just sits there. Your camera manual should show a list of tested sd cards. If not your best bet is to go to a store and bring your camera and ask to try before you buy.

If you can read the sd card in something else then it is most likely compatibility problem. If it can't be read about all you can do is try to format the card and see if that brings it back to life.

Memory card

What type of camera are you using? Also, are we talking SD style cards?

Basically if you are using SD cards you need to make sure your camera is compatible with SDHC cards if you want to use anything above 2GB. Once you go from 2GB to 4GB it is no longer an SD; it becomes an SDHC card and not all cameras are compatible with them yet.
