Question about Nikon Cameras

1 Answer

I dropped my D40 and two of the three flanges that hold the lens in place broke. The lens still functions but needs to be held tightly to the body. Can I have this repaired? And how would this happen?

The lens and housing will probably need to be replaced, but I would take it to a camera repair shop and have it checked to rule out other problems before proceeding with repairs.

Nikon D40 (very dark photographs)

If lens has aperture ring make sure its set to highest aperture (f22 etc). With nikon CPU lenses, all exposure metering is done inside lens, sounds like lens still has problems. Try another lens to test camera body, camera shop should be willing to help with this.

Lens is loose from body

One note on this fix. There are four screws that need to be tightened on the lens. With the cover off and the lens pointing straight forward, there are three small screws visible. After tightening them, rotate the lens upward to expose the fourth screww. After that one is tightened, you can then replace the cover and six cover screws.
