Question about Vivitar Vivicam 3345 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Distorted images When I try to capture a "superfine" resolution image (1600x1200), the image is distorted - segmented, linear blocks across the image, steps in the image, colour is separated into colour blocks - if only I could send you an attachment to demonstrate the effect - it would be so much easier!  I try to use this camera at work to document problems with equipment. This was my first digital camera - and what a disappointment! The batteries drain almost immediately, and never try to use the flash. It did work outside in bright sunshine, and also when in the "Economy" Mode / lowest resolution inside (no flash), when testing with random shots. And,  and, and... Do you have suggestions for improving the use of this camera?

    Good Morning Bubbabear,

At the lowest resolution, no flash - the images are fine, not much detail, but ok;  see image below

At highest resolution, no flash - the images are distorted as shown below [(original image - 680 kb; reduced image - 88kb) - using Mac Preview]

another image taken at high resolution and reduced - [original - 744 kb; red'd -68 kb]

This will give you an impression of my problem.

There has to be something wrong with the firmware in the camera in order for that to happen. You could take it into a camera store but I have a feeling the cost is going to be too high.

I couldn't download the manual from the website either.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Can't get a 2MB image. What am I doing Wrong?

Jpg images use a form of compression. If the camera sees an area that is all white for instance, it knows that that one white pixel is the same as those around it and doesn't need all the information. This reduces the size. If you have highest res and superfine compression the only other thing you can is increase physical size if the camera has that choice, or buy a Canon Rebel or Nikon D90 :>)

Wide screen monitor distortion
Depending upon the screen resolution that has been set in Display, the image will be distorted on these large wide screen monitors.
To correct this distortion.
1. Create a large circle image using a draw program such as Paint (hold down the Shift key as you create the circle as it will draw a perfect circle).
2. Open Control Panel - Display - Settings tab and adjust the Screen resolution slider, increase or decrease the screen resolution then bring the circle image to the front and check the image, if the circle is still distorted then change the screen resolution and check the circle again until you are satisfied with the image of the circle.
3. When you are satisfied then click apply.

Remove time date picture

Try to use menu and settings. Also, date stamp can be used only in very low resolution images, change your image resolution and quality back to this large/superfine setting. And you can find the information related to date stamp in user guides. Look for them here Canon Camera user guides and owners manual

The best way to adjust the screen is to adjust the screen resolution until you get a correctly proportioned image.
First display an image such as a square or a circle on the screen.
Go to Control panel - Display - Settings tab and start with 1024 X 768 screen resolution adjustment
click Apply and the check your image.
Repeat the adjust screen resolution select the next highest screen resolution setting, repeat thia process until you get the best image.

In my canon Power shot sx100is . how can i get the date on image

Good evening!
Bad news. For the date embedded feature, the image size is FIXED to the 2M (1600x1200) setting with the compression set to Fine.
The only other way I can think of, is if you are printing from software that came with your camera. When you start the software and transfer your photos, there will be a box to check if you want to add a date stamp to your photos.
Sorry about that! Mine does the same thing, only I never put the stamp on mine.
Hope this will be ok!

How do I adjust the resolution that the photos are saved?

To change the resolution and compression:

1. Press the Func button.
2. Scroll down, if necessary, to the icon in the lower left corner of the LCD.
3. Use the right or left arrows to select L (large), M1, M2 (medium), or S (small). Press the Set button.
4. Use the right or left arrows to select superfine (quadrant with S), fine (quadrant), or normal (stairsteps). Press the Set button.
5. Press the Func button to exit.

Large/superfine images will take up the most space on the memory card. Small/normal images will take the least, but the picture quality will be less if you're printing the pictures.

There is a table at this link (scroll down) to show you how many images will fit on a memory card at different settings.

What size will the recorded image file be?

In general, the file size of captured image depends on which image size and quality you have selected. Since the image size may vary depending on scenes and subjects, these are approximate values only. Image size 2560x1920 / 2080x1560 /1600x1200 / 640x480 Std: 1,491KB /1,025KB / 656KB / 240KB FINE: 2,520KB /1,704KB / 1,058KB / 320 KB X.FIN: 4,920KB / 3,289KB / 1,995KB / 420KB TIFF: 14,520KB / 9,506KB / 5,625KB / 900KB RAW: 7,373KB Movie: 522KB/s

What is the rate of continuous frame advance?

The continuous advance speed is approximately 2 fps (frame per second), but actual speed may vary depending on the subject or according to the selected image size. The maximum number of images that the camera can capture continuously is as below. Fine: 5/8/11/23 Std: 7/11/16/32 Econ: 11/17/22/40 Super Fine, RAW: Not available (Image size: 2560x1920 / 1600x1200 / 1280x960 / 640x480) On the other hand, the UHS (Ultra High Speed) achieves up to 7fps continuous capturing. The maximum number of images that the camera can capture continuously is as below. Fine: 15 Std: 31 Econ: 39 - Image Size is 1280x960 (SXGA) only. - AF, AE and White Balance are locked for the first frame in the series. - 1/8s or faster shutter speed is automatically selected. - Digital subject program is unavailable.

Image quality in low resolution

SHQ1 and HQ are two different levels of compression to make the file smaller. This will have a great impact on the image quality. Generally on Olympus cameras, this is what those letters mean: TIFF (highest (best) quality) generally not used. Files are HUGE and takes a long time for the camera to save the image to the card. SHQ (super high quality) you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and the TIFF HQ (high quality) which is lower quality than SHQ SQ (standard quality) which is lower quality than HQ SQ1 (standard quality 1) which is lower quality that SQ SQ2 (standard quality 2) which is lower quality that SQ1 A 2048x1536 only seems large because most people have their monitors set to 800x600 or maybe 1024x768 (that's what I have mine set at). This will seem to make the image REALLY LARGE! It only seems that way because you have to scroll around to see the image. If you want to print images, you'll want all the resolution you can get. If you want to display them on your screen (slide show,WEB page) then you don't need large images. You would just need to resize them down. However, since you may want to both, getting a camera with a higher resolution gives you the choice to do either. Usually, the higher resolution cameras have better lenses and generally take better pictures. On my camera (the Oly 2100), I always shoot at the highest resolution and the least amount of compression (SHQ on my camera). This allows me to do almost anything with the image. Nowadays, camera media (smart cards) are fairly cheap, HD's are DIRT cheap and CD-Rs are very cheap. If the images are "keepers", then I personally would want to start with the best image possible and store the images on CD.
