Question about HP SureStore Optical 9100mx (C1114M) (C1114M#ABA) External Magneto-Optical Disk Drive
In our company have a HP C1114 storage. It can´t read or write a 4,8 GB disk but it can read a 1,2 GB disk. Usually we use a 4,8 GB .
I don't think the drive can be adjusted or calibrated. It's dependent on the operating system and the drivers it uses.
It could be the drive itself needs to be replaced so that it can read the format you need.
Is there a way you clean the thing?

Tips for a great answer:
if you are referring to usb drives or scan disk cards if its a scan disk card it must have device to plug it into (camera ,phone, navigator) if its a usb drive you must plug it into a usb port if you want to use the usb drive
click start click on my computer you should see your drive it will be listed as something like G: or H: or if its in a device it might be seen as a mass storage device
click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question/exclamation mark ? ! or a red X you will need to update the driver
right click to reinstall drivers
if you can see your usb drive but its not working
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts
hope this helps you

Your drive is not spinning up because of ither a read channel calibration error- or a focus servo error- assumimng your using the same media you always have been- and its not REALLY dusty.
Read Cal failure is caused by the controller and the Focus Servo Failure is caused by the optcs module-
repair cost $285 for either.
