Question about Gateway Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Turned off computer, when I tried to restart it, a message saying "windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause" it gives the option to launch startup repair, or start normally, if start up repair is launched it, after 10 minutes it says application failed, if started normally it says, " a problem has been detected with your computer, and windows has been shut down to prevent damage...etc. I tried safe mode, and eventually using the gateway operating systems disc to re install the operating system (vista) but nothing seems to work, it still says the same messages.

You probably have a mbr virus. Try this:

Download The following iso listed below. It is the latest version of the Kaspersky rescue disk. You need to burn it to a CD with a program like Imgburn (Which is also FREE like the iso file). Then you need to boot from the CD and run the scanner. It should fix you right up.

Kaspersky rescue cd download:

A solution to that is to install Windows Vista Ultimate on top of your old vista installation. Just insert your Vista DVD and restart your computer. And simply follow the instructions for the installation.

If you place your Win7 disk in the DVD drive boot the laptop from the disk and choose to install a new system.
Follow the menu and prompts.
When it has installed download the drivers from Acer.com otherwise you will get problems.
Hope that helps.

Try safe mode.
If that works, there is a card or software that has failed.
Checking the cards is easy, take them out one at a time and restart, for motherboard features, shut them down one at a time.
For software, did you load anything new, even updates, if so remove them.
Mine turned out to be a bad PCI card for a scanner.
