Question about Samsung HCM4216W 42" Rear Projection Television

SAMSUNG HCM4215W Rear Projection HDTV shuts down

Recently repaired the convergence problem with the tv; replace the two STKs, the pico fuse, and the fuse resistors. After converging, the set had a beautiful picture for about an hour or two, then it shut down. Turned it on again, and in 5 to 10 seconds it shut down again. Disconnected the wires from the convergence board and the set played continuously. Thought it might be solder issue, so I removed the main deflection board (on right side as you look in from the back) and checked for cold solders. Replaced the board, but still has same problem. I am at a loss as I don't have a schematic. Any ideas as to what this problem could be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Low ohm resistors are open or poor solder connections on the bottom of a convergence IC.

You need to look at resistors in good light with magnifying glass. Bad ones may show as discolored or burnt.

The repair needs someone that has the schematic for the convergence cct, and can replace the burnt resistors or replace the whole convergence board.

If you are near Calgary, call me, if not, find someone that has done it before, preferably many times.

You will need to replace both convergence Ics and the pico fuses that blow when the Ics fail. You can get the replacement Ics and pico fuses from www.tvreairworld.com they also provide free tech support to help you install them

Tv shut off and started clicking

Do you hear a constant chirp or click?

If so you will most likely need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Tv wouldn't turn on, unplugged convergence board, turned on, replaced STKs, still have convergence problem

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
