Re: wont download songs
P. 11 of your manual is the most helpful. You can use Windows Explorer or Windows Media Player 10. Microsoft has video tutorials and help files on their website - I have also written an article about the subject in the "Tips & Tricks" section

Please install the driver for the media conversion in your PC and then convert the media files to be loaded to the player and then transferred. It is important that you uninstall the driver if this was loaded and then reinstall with the convertor driver for the player from the RCA official website. You get songs by either ripping them from a CD (with a tool like Windows Media Player), or buying them from a website like Amazon.com.
Once they're on your computer's disk, connect your Pearl player to your computer's USB port. Then find the songs on your computer. Then follow the instructions in the user's guide to copy them onto your Pearl player:
Click this link to go to the RCA support page. Under the light bulb, click "For TH1102 click here". This will download the firmware for your Pearl. Plug in your mp3 player and run the file. This will delete any songs or data currently on your mp3 player so back up your songs if you can.
#1. Stop pinching pennies and buy a used cheap ipod on ebay, I bought one myself for Xmas, guess how much. $45 with free shipping, now I'm enjoying it, with mp3 formatted songs I downloaded form youtube. #2. Google 'RCA Pearl Firmware Upgrade', it will be hard to find, but when you do, download and install it. Note, this solves the problem, but not forever. So I would advise you to bookmark the site, or save the file for future use.
The license on the songs that you are trying to download either does not permit transfer to mp3 players - or the license has expired. Use mp3 format songs only, and you will never have this problem. You can read my "Tips & Tricks" article on song formats if you really want more detailed information.

I had many of the same problems as listed above. what worked for me was to go here and download the firmware upgrade installer. Follow the directions and be sure to check the reformat box b4 you start. My pearl th1100a is working fine now. Hope this helps Q
And when you run it, click the checkbox for "Format Data Area." When the message comes up saying you want to delete all the files, click "yes-" it's worth deleting all your songs if it works properly afterwards. You'll have to re-sync your songs and the downloads take forever, but it works.
