You have to drop the swingarm, the belt wraps the arm, so you have to take it loose from the frame in order to get the belt in place. I would recommend a service manual for your bike, for all the torque specs of the components you will need to remove, ie... brake caliper, shocks, swing arm pivot bolt, etc.., and for the rear wheel and belt alignment, and the belt tension. The belt tension is crucial, if it not tight enough you will wear the belt out faster or it will slip, and if it's too tight you can break the belt or spin the splines out of the front drive pulley. I know this from experience, overtightened the belt on mine earlier this summer, was fine with my wieght, but spun the pulley at a ralley with a passenger. Pyrhyc is making you do a whole lot of work for nothing. 1. loosen rear axle and slide wheel forward 2. if you are trashing the belt just cut it off, if reusing the belt, mark the belt and pulleys(front & rear) so as to put back in original wear pattern 3. remove brake pedal pin on pushrod to master cylinder 4. remove master cylinder allens and brake hose keeper on pulley cover 5. remove cover allens and remove cover (depending on exhaust system, you might have to loosen the rear header) 6. remove belt guards 7. remove shock lower bolt and loosen top, swing shock out of the way and tighten down upper bolt 8. the belt can be turned sideways and fanagled around exhaust brackets and such (do not bend belt too sharply or you will damage the cords) 9. after you have threaded it the front pulley, install on rear pulley first then front pulley. 10. re-install what you took off .
now to tighten the belt, have someone sit on the bike to preload the belt and adjust the tensioners equally on both sides until belt will move 1/8 to 1/4 inch pushing at middle between pulleys. after a few hundred miles, recheck tension. a little too tight is better than too loose. if you slip a tooth, the belt is usually history. pyrhyc stripping his hub is only consequental, his hub was loose to begin with. if the slpines are tight, all the loading is equalized and the only harm is adding excessive load to the output shaft bearings which can cause premature failure. i probably have been more abusive to my pulleys and belts than pyrhyc will ever do and no failures to date but proper maintenance is the key. i wonder if he runs up to 60 in first and launches second into the air???

test or replace your ignition module,and you might find the actual prob by accident the connector for the module sometimes with age lose or only have intermittant contact.a can of electrical contact cleaner should take care of it but those symptoms scream ignition mod dont know why hd dealer couldnt find it but they dont put their best techs on older bikes

Stopped running


Check your alternator. Or the Alternator belt.
Sounds like you basically used up the rest of your charge in the battery after the alternator went out.
