Bought new Dell with Vista 64 bit. Connected Brother MFC 420CN using USB. Driver automatically downloaded. But when I send doc to printer, it never gets there. The queue just says "Error-Printing". Have tried other USB and Ethernet cables. No errors on printer screen. Downloaded driver from Brother web site. Now in the Printers window it shows two Brother printers, one on LPT1 and on on Virtual printer port for USB. When I plug in or unplug I don't get the audio sounds you normally get when you plug something into the computer.

To print an Engine Test Page, open and close the cartridge door five times while the printer is in ready mode. The printer should print one page with multiple horizontal lines.
If the engine test page printed, is a comunication problem (PC configuration,PC/Printer conection/Driver bad installed)
Hi
The printhead may not be moving or it may be moving but not printing.
If the printhead is not printing then you should start by checking the print supply. The supply doesnt have to be completly empty to fail. Replace those that are low. The jets may also be clogged. This is common if the printer has not been used in a while. You should refer to the cleaning instructions in the manual and then run the printer's self test.
If the printer will not print from the self test then the components involved will be the printhead, the flexible signal cable, the control board and the power supply
If the printhead is not moving then a single block of print should be produced on the page. When this happens the components involved are the printhead positoning motor, the timing belt, the home position sensor, the control board and maybe the power supply.
Hi,
If the printhead is printing but is not moving across the page then a single block of print will be produced across the whole page. When this happens the problems include the printhead positioning motor, the timing belt, the home position sensor, the control board or the power supply.
With the power off manually move the printhead to the center of the printer. Turn the printer on to see if the printhead seeks the home position at the far end of the printer. If the printhead moves to the end of the printer and doesn't shut off or doesnt return to the center of the printer then the home positioning is malfunctioning and should be replaced. If the printhead moves on startup but doesn't on printing then the control board should be replaced. If the printhead doesnt move any time check to see if the printer is in maintenance mode. In this mode the printer keeps the printhead assembly in the home position. I f no mode problems are present the positioning motor should be replaced.
Goodluck
go to print preview, then to the margins button at the top and click it, margins will appear on the page, adjust your margins to the edges of the page, if the spreadsheet is supposed to be on one page and doesnt fit, go to page setup and shrink the size of the document (will be percentage), either way--once you have moved your margins out to the edges, you can then move them back in a little at a time if you need to in order to center your document on the page. Hope this helped.
this printer have the option to change the size of paper(the standard long of sheet are 11 inchs, maybe are in 12 or 13), check in you user manual, the size have by default , and if dont the same media size change to the correct size
chech if the ink cartrades are plugged in tight in they are check if all the chords are plugged in if that doesnt work go to a tech man or get a new printer
