Only half of the freezer and half of the fridge are working

heat rises and cold stays down on the lower shelves,if the evap fan motor isn't blowing this will happen, next time send the brand name and model number off of the machine, open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you have a bad evap fan motor, all it does is the freezer gets cold, the fan blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge section, also if the fan isn't working when you remove the back inside wall of the freezer if there's any ice melt it out with a hair dryer, unplug the machine before you start working on it,call your parts store, give them the model number and they will sell you the parts you need.

The strip between freezer and refrig become hot then cools off. It's like it is going thru a cycle. We cleaned the coils underneath, but it is still getting hot and then in about 15 minutes, it's...

Hello,

When you cleaned the coil underneath did ya notice that their was air being blown out their by a fan, having clened the coil was a good start but if the fan by the compressor isn't running that divider between the ref/freezer will be hotter than normal( its normally warm and thats ok),so check that the condenser fan is running and that it seems to running at a good speed.

We have a Kitchenaid superba side by side. The freezer is working fine, but the refrigerator isn't cold. I have vacuumed the coils at the top of the model, but didn't solve the problem. I can...

The cooling normally comes from the freezer side, through cooling tubes. There should be a fan either blowing or sucking the air through these cooling tubes. So the first thing you should do is verify that the evaporator fan is turning and then see if you feel air flow in both compartments. If you have air flow in the freezer but not the refrigerator side, then the cooling tube must be blocked.

Most of the time the blockage is ice or frost, and you will need to open up the inner back panel of the freezer to get to the cooling tube. Look for an opening under the evaporator. Suggest a hair dryer to defrost the tube.

Maytag MDS2351- came home one day and noticed water coming from where u get the ice and water when i opened the freezer it was not cool and everything i had in there was defrosted and then when i went to...

Your fridge operates like that: a compressor liquefies freon vapours; this creates heat so the hot liquid goes thru a cooling radiator with a fan on it (these 2 elements are at the rear bottom of the fridge) the freon fluid goes to an evaporator, turns to vapour and absorbs heat in the process, cooling the evaporator; a fan blows air over the evaporator and spreads the cooled air all over the fridge; the vapours return to the compressor.
In the rear of the fridge you should make sure that the radiator is clean and the fan working; inside the fridge you should make sure that the evaporator is not covered in ice and/or dirt and its fan is working. If necessary clean both.
If they are clean , the fans work but the evaporator isn't cold then either the freon circuit has sprung a leak and all the fluid has been lost or the compressor isn't working - to find out which just put your hands on the compressor : if it's hot and vibrates the fluid has been lost, if it doesn't vibrates then the compressor isn't working.
The compressor isn't working because either the thermostat or itself have failed. To find out which the compressor will have to be powered directly from the mains: if it starts then the thermostat must be replaced, if it doesn't the compressor will.
To fix the freon circuit or to replace the compressor a certified professional is mandatory, you must call one.

It was working but stopped blowing cold air.

There is a concealed fan that serves to distribute the cooled air between the two cabinets and 'stir' it to avoid cold spots and that fan isn't running currently.
Go to the link below and enter your full model number to see if Sears has an illustrated breakdown of your Roper. This will show you where the fan is located and you can then decide if you want to DIY or call a pro.

open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing around?it sounds like the evap fan motor isn't running and that's why it's cold on the bottom and not the top,you have to repair this fast or you'll loose your food in the fridge, the fan is what blows the cold air from the freezer to the fridge section.

GE TFX 22CR Freezer works but not Refrigerator.

If the evaporator fan isn`t working, the frig will not circulate the cold air needed from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. You will need to remove the panel and check for ice around the fan. Make sure it can turn free. If it isn`t blocked and you can turn it freely and there is voltage going to it, the fan motor has gone bad and needs to be replaced if there.
