Question about Digital Cameras

Sony DSC-F717 seems fine except viewfinder display is blurred, both through finder and on rear LCD. It is a flickering vertical smudge of the true image.

Lens is clean. Viewfinder display is OK at extreme left and right edges and has characteristic liquid crystal blur, vertical, reddish, in the middle. With occasional flickering black horizontal bars. Menus display fine.

Lens dirty possibly, someone touched the lens? clean the lens, see if that solves it.

Your camera may be suffered from a faulty CCD chip, especially if the affected products are stored or used in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. If this occurs, the signal is not output from the CCD normally in Shooting Mode, which may cause a distorted image or the absence of an image. This malfunction can be confirmed on the LCD monitor screen during shooting. The same malfunction also appears on the recorded image

Try connect the camera to the a Tv and check the display.

When this happens it is either a faulty lcd display, or the lcd display ribbon cables faulty or not well placed into connector.
To access the LCD display, and the LCD ribbon cable you will need to take apart the camera, this is a job that must be done by a technician.
You can ask a quote at a local camera repair shop or call the service telephone number printed on last page of your owner manual.
Check also guaranty terms.

If you have liquid inside LCD, then the display must be replaced.

LCD main PCB is faulty. Get a new LCD.
Hint: Buy a faulty Sony camera from ebay from the same series as your cam and install it.

Its easy, take screws of and remove old screen from connector, install new screen.

Too easy

you dont have to get a tech to replace your lcd. Its a matter of just removing old LCD and connecting new LCD with the connector.

    Ive done it before

    Cheers

Lcd and view finder stay black

Due to ccd imager chip failure in DC-F717 camera, you do not get live view to take pictures in LCD and view finder. CCD imager chip will be replaced to correct that problem, Sony offers free of cost repair for same problem in this model. Click Sony CCD Imager Support for details.
Thanks.

My sony DSC-H1's LCD is not showing anything...but I can operate the camera with its view finder... Do you have any idea why it happens? and is there any master reset option for this camera?

I have a similar SONY camera. Turn the camera on and to the right of the viewfinder (or perhaps in a different location on your model) there will be a small button that reads, "FINDER/LCD". Press that button once to see if your view switches back from viewfinder mode to LCD display mode.
