EPSON Stylus DX4400 purchased in May 2008.Serial No. K2RV045630, I have difficulty whenever a cartridge runs out. This morning I I had just reached the half way stage in copying a 24 page document, doublesided when a warning appeared to say that three of the cartridges needed replacement. I knew that one cartridge was low before I started. I looked up the manual and followed the instructions on replacement. I opened the lid and pressed the STOP button. The print head moved a little, then flew off to the left and back and forth and returned to the home position with green and red light on as as at the beginning. (No printer icon is on the task bar.) I would recommend that if you are purchasing compatible cartridges for the first time that you purchase a complete set. This is because the compatibles may not function combined with the original cartridges you received with your printer.
Some cartridges also need you to transfer the chip from the original cartridge.
Diane, We try to steer people away from new Epson printers unless they plan on purchasing a professional model. The new Epson cartirdges have little ink and finicky. I would try power cycling the machine with the cartridges removed (unplug it for 30sec.) then reinstall the cartridges. If the problem persist call Epson and let them know what you think. If they don't help you, buy an HP. But but an HP that takes integrated print head cartridges or you'll be in the same situation.
His could be because epson print jets plug up. and usualy cost more to repair than to purchase new printer. i had epson and now buy HP because hp when you replace the ink cartridge the spray jets are incorporated into the cartridge the only thing you have to be carefull of is that somel manufactures now put a chip on the cartridges to expire the units so they can sell you another even if you dont use the ink HP included so look for exp. date on new units. look into food warehouses like sams. costco, Bjs etc. they usualy have good prices on printers. sunday paper is also a good place to look.
In March of 2007 Epson started putting a different chip in some of their cartridges so that refill companies couldn't refill them. My printer is a CX8400 just purchased last Oct but manufactured Dec of 2007. The date they changed the cartridges was March of 2007. You must then buy cartridges Original OEM or find a company that has cartridges for before that date or after depending on when your printer was made. Look at the bottom of the printer for little clock dials and you can determine the date of manufacture. On mine the first number was the year and the second the month. Check ink companies online to see if this applies to your printer. Some ink companies don't mention this or just send you the wrong ones. The older cartridges will not work in the newer models.
the ink cartridges for an epson stylus dx4400 are unrefillable, you have to use genuine epson ink with this printer.i have the same printer.you can buy a single black epson cartridge from asda, comet, tesco and other big well known stores.do not use other, cheaper copy cat ink cartridges as it really does ruin your printer.
