Hey i recently bought a 320gb hard drive for my ps3, I installed it like it asked and did everything right but it wont work, it keeps coming up with an error saying "please insert starage device contaning firmware 2.42 or up" I didnt know by taking the hard drive out that it got rid of the firmware, I have looked everywhere on the web and only one other person has had the same problem and the solution to the problem was useless. Please help! Thanks

You cannot get the full 320Gb capacity because the BIOS can only support a maximum of 127Gb. You only hope is a BIOS firmware upgrade that can support 320Gb. Check out the Acer WEB site to see if a BIOS upgrade will solve your problem. OTHERWISE Install a 127Gb hard drive in your Acer and put the 320Gb hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive because it is not affected by the BIOS limitation.
To upgrade your hard drive you will not need to mode the system. I know the system should support the 500gb drive. As for the 1tb drive it may work but it depends if the system has support for a 1tb drive. Sony may have not added support for 1tb drives to the PS3. The link below will show you how to remove the hard drive.
Certain games copy gigs and gigs of data over during first install to speed up game play, otherwise you would be waiting forever for certain games to load.
GTA and Metal Gear take up a ton of space.
The best solution for you is to get an external FAT32 usb drive with at least 80gb of free space on it, backup your PS3 to it, and then upgrade your hard drive to a 250gb or 320gb SATA drive from Best Buy. They're going for $49.99 and below so it's a cost effective upgrade.
Once you've got the new drive swapped in you just have to follow the on screen prompts and RESTORE your PS3 from the backup you created earlier and you are good to go ;)
Hold L1, R1, and select simultaneously when the security settings icon
is selected in the XMB. Then it'll ask for you to input a code. 5-2-0-2, This will unlock it from demonstration mode.
If it's a PAL PS3, well sorry I dont know the code.
Yes. Go to the control panel, adminstrative tools, computer management, disk management. From there you will see the hard drive and be able to expand it to the full 320gb.
did you install ubuntu from ps3 boot loader or was it an install of ubuntu then stick the hard drive in the ps3. cause the only way to install another os is from the install other os option even if the drive is partitioned ps3 has to lock the hard drive to the ps3 witch requires reformatt
I think i've found two solutions with one being the easiest,
hassle-free and no-cost solution and the other simply alternative DIY
solution.
1) I phoned Sony Customer Support and
the person i spoke to was really polite and organised a 'striaight-swap' console-for-console. They are sending a courier to my
house with a new ps3 with the 40gb hard drive, similar to that in my
'damaged' console.
They said dont give them any cables, games or even the hard drive which you can take out and keep-
they are quite literally swapping my old machine for a new one, which comes with a
pre-fitted hdd.
I phoned them on Monday and they said it would arrive sometime on Thursday.
I strongly suggest anyone with this kind of problem and minimal,
otherwise no experince of replacing hard-drive's themselves to do the
same -
after all, no extra costs are required, only a few days without your
console.
2) I'm not entirely sure about people outside of the UK, but if you go
to www.play.com, you will find a cheap and
affordable-for-what-it's-worth hard drive that you can fit in and as
gamerfixer07 has stated, 9 times out of 10, it will work.
The HDD specs are:
-Western Digital (brand)
-320GB
-2.5" (of course)
-5400 rpm (don't ever get 7200 rpm unless you wanna burn your ps3)
-good seek speed
-£49.99 (Hey! If your currency is the Euro then its cool cos it's almost £1 = 1 EURO).
I hope this helps.
Please leave some feedback if everything is ok. Thanks!
