Question about Kenmore 53509 Dehumidifier
My Kenmore 53509 Dehumidifier has worked superbly for the last 4 years, but recently quite dehumidifying. I live in a high humidity environment, the blower fan is operational, but whenever the compressor attempts to engage at any setting of humidity, the compressor quits within 1 seconds. Is it possible that the compressor needs to be recharged, is it possible to have the compressor recharged, or is there other troubleshooting I need to do? Appreciate any suggestions. Up until now, this has been a great dehumidifier.

this unit is very simular to an air conditioner except it has a humidistat instead of a thermistat.. if your handy with a continuity tester unplug the unit find the humidistat and check to see if its open or if its good then call the company at 1 800 322 3848 or contact the web site at firstname.lastname@example.org Good Luck

A dehumidifier is just a refrigerating machine with it's shirt hanging out and there is not much in the way of serviceable parts inside.
If the compressor runs - the throbbing sound - and it doesn't collect water then either the intake filter screen is totally clogged with fluff or the compressor has leaked it's gas away, in which case it might run continuously and get hot to no good effect.
If it doesn't run then it may be that the motor capacitor has failed, but that can soon lead to the compressor motor cooking itself; leaving you with an expensive doorstop.
The one thing you might get checked is the "bucket full" switch. There will be a floating part on the bucket which rises up when the bucket fills and eventually makes contact with another part which is connected to a small switch. If that switch has failed you might be lucky and get an inexpensive repair job done.
If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a suitable rating. If they do not, please add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further.

My unit does not collect water any more. It was fine until I lent it to my brother in law and it was returned damaged. Do you know how to fix this

SOURCE: Dehumidifier Error?
Same problem with Goldstar model DH404EY7 -- stop code 01 on startup, bucket full light blinks (drains to floor).
Replaced the main controller board to fix it.
For my model dehumidifer the part # is 6871A20888A, and cost $77.44 (not counting shipping) from Appliance Factory Parts. The Appliance Factory Parts web site also provides parts breakdown (exploded parts diagram) diagrams and service manuals in PDF form.
