First go to a computer that you know has conectivity.
In your browser type //192.168.2.1 and hit enter. Here you should be able to manage the router. You need to make sure the wifi is enabled.
The easy way, is to run the setup CD. While normally I hate these things, well, normally I hate all things Belkin, they actually have a VERY nice assisted setup CD. People with absolutely no computer skills can manage to set up a router with their setup CD.
Belkin Routers will have wifi disabled out of the box to encourage you to use the setup CD. You have to do one of the things above.

How do you set the router up!!! no diagram to hook up to desktop

How you connect it depends on how you plan to use it. Let me explain:

Some people have a dsl line (high speed internet connection) and their modem from their internet provider only has room for one computer cable to connect and use the internet. If the customer has more then one desktop computer they want to connect to the internet, they will need to buy a router. A router provides multiple ports for several computers to connect to the internet at the same time.

If you have a dsl modem already and bought a router to add additional computers to your network - then follow the instructions below to set it up:

Connect your phone cord from the wall into the dsl modem. Plug in the power cable from the dsl modem to the wall and turn it on. Connect an ethernet cable to the dsl modem (ethernet cables are the ones that look like a regular telephone cord but the ends are a little larger) and connect the other end to your router. Make sure you plug this cable into the port marked "ethernet" on your router. There is only one port for your internet connection line coming into the router, the rest of the ports are for adding computers only. Some routers say the word "ethernet" near the port for the internet connection. Others have a picture near or or brackets around it to show that it is different then the others. Plug in the power cord to your router and turn it on. Make sure you turn on your modem first and let it warm up before connecting your router. Modem power on first, then router power on - always.

Now connect an ethernet cable to your router and connect the other end to the pc you wish to use on the internet. Do not turn on your pc until the ethernet cord is attached. Your dsl modem has to be powered up first, followed by your router and then your pc. All in that order.

Your computer should automatically sense the internet connection upon start up. You can verify that your connection is installed correctly and that your pc is sensing it by looking at the bottom right side of your screen near the clock area. You should see a picture of a computer monitor that represents your internet connection status. Sometimes they glow green when they are healthy. Sometimes they show a red X on top of them if they are disconnected from the internet. If you can't find the Icon for your internet connection on the bottom right side of your screen, unplug the ethernet cable from the back of your pc - while watching the bottom right side area and plug it back in again. Watch for a change to locate the icon. Sometimes there is a downward pointing arrow near the clock which needs to be clicked on to open up the area and view the icons.

Thats all! One line from the modem to the router - another line from the router to the pc - and the internet should be up and running fine.

If you bought a router combination modem - then its the same as above - just without a separate dsl modem. (i.e. Connect the power cable from the router/modem to the wall. Connect the ethernet cable to the port marked "ethernet" for your internet connecton and connect the other end of the cord to your pc. Then turn your pc on. Router/modem power on first and pc power on second in that order)

All the lights on your modem should be green and steady - except for the one marked internet or connection which is usually flashing and moving. If you have any red or yellow lights then you need to troubleshoot and correct the problem before your internet connection will work.

I have installed, set up, and created my router's name, password, and key, but im still having trouble connecting to the internet. The little icon that looks like the earth is glowing orange, and the only...

Use the network setup wizard to connect to your network, and the internet. Unless you did this already.
You can get the wizard from Control Panel, Network ... , Connect to a Network. If wired you won't need key, it's for wireless only.

Yo did not say what OS, so info is a little generic.
Hope this helps.

The thinkpad T-40 will not open the internet

Have you ever used this computer to get onto the internet?
To do so, you will need to have the computer connected to either a WIFI network or attached via an Ethernet cable to a modem or router which is itself connected to the internet.

Assuming you are doing this at home and have an internet service and a router or modem that is connected to your internet service provider, the best way to get started is to connect a cat-5 or cat-6 Ethernet cable to the computer and router. The Ethernet cable looks like a fat phone cable. Your modem or router should have sockets labeled as 'to computer' or 'to LAN' and 'to WWW' or 'to Internet'. The cable going to your computer should be plugged into one of the jacks going to the LAN or computer (depending on the terms they use).

Depending on how your Windows OS is set up, you may see a little icon in the lower right next to the clock that is a picture of 2 mini computers overlapped. Ideally, before you plugged in the cable, there was a little red X over one of the computers and now there is a little blue earth. If so, you are good-2-go.

If not, you will need to go into your 'Control Panels' which is off the start menu (picture of the windows icon in the lower right corner). In your control panels you will find an option that is called something like 'network setup' and from there you will find an option for 'Set up a network connection'. To help you further I would need to know which flavor of Windows you are running and ideally what sort of ISP you are using, and what sort of home router (if any) you are using.

Good luck.

I have a Belkin 8623-4 and the "wireless" and modem icon flash orange. The internet icon does not light. Solve this

Are you using dsl or cablemodem?

If the internet led does not come on, then your router is not getting any communication from your dsl or cable modem. try reseating the connections and reboot each device.

Did you put the password in the modem ?? 192.168.1.1 is your first step. Check to see if the modem AND your computer are on the same page - or is your computer giving the modem a temporary password. How new is the modem ?? Programing ease depends on modem age and modem intelligence.
