Question about ASUS P4S8X-MX Motherboard
Hello I have the Asus P4S8X MX motherboard. When I try and install an automatic SIS video controller (VGA compatible) video driver everything in the install goes great. EXCEPT my computer keeps restarting on its own or freezes up on me. I bought a TV tuner card for my pc and I need this video conroller driver so everything on the tv runs perfectly without it it is too choppy.
PLEASE I NEED HELP !!!!!
The Asus P4S8X-MX uses an onboard video controller, (SiS Real 256E graphics card).
There is an order of sequences that must be followed when adding another video card on to the motherboard. If these are not followed your new card will not function correctly. Shut down the system. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Open your case.
Please remove any graphics cards you may have added into the system, (For now). Once removed leave your case open & plug the power cord back into the PC. Press the start button. Start pressing the Delete key every two seconds as the PC starts up.
The bios main menu will load. Instruction on how to move about within the bios is listed at the bottom of the menu. You will need the P4S8X-MX manual. (If you no longer have the manual you can download it from Asus by clicking on this link:
Click the plus sign next to; Manual. Find the English manual.
Create a folder on you're desktop & name it Manual. Download the manual. Save the manual into the folder. The manual will need Adobe pdf reader to be viewed. If you do not have Adobe you can download it for free from this link:
Once into the bios go to the title Advanced, page 2-17 in your manual or page 59 in Adobe pdf viewer. Open Chipset sub-menu.
Than find, Primary Graphics Adapter page 2-21 in manual, pg 63 in Adobe.
If the TV turner card is an AGP set this to [AGP] & set AGP Fast Write Control to [Enabled].
If you are using a PCI TV tuner card set this to [PCI]. Save the bios & exit. The PC will auto restart. Press & hold the power on button until the PC shuts off. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Re-insert you're AGP TV video card. Double check all internal connectors for good connecting before closing the case. Plug in the PC's power cord & start the system. Once windows has finished loading install the TV video cards driver software.
If you installed software drivers for the P4S8X-MX other than driver software provided by Asus please uninstall that software through Add/Remove programs. (If at all possible).
Since you want to use a TV video card you can not use the onboard graphics card at the same time. This is why windows was restarting. Windows did not know which card to load. Once the onboard card has been disabled by telling the bios to load the AGP, (Assuming you're TV card is an AGP card) windows should run fine. There is always the possibility I interpreted your trouble incorrectly. If this is the case, please let me know & I'll adjust my answer to fit the issue.
Good luck bullterrier0!
