Question about HP OfficeJet 9120 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Printer/Scanner Problems I need to get rid of a long black line that shows up on digital and hard copies of anything that I scan or print. It wasn't there before. However a coworker believes that it could've been caused by a paper jam in the automatic sheet feeder. It appears to be cleared, however, this line still keeps showing up. What can we do to get rid of it?

Does the line show up on PRINTS FROM YOUR COMPUTER also, or only when SCANNING A DOCUMENT? If the line is only from scanned documents, the SCAN GLASS has something stuck on it. The SCAN GLASS is a GLASS **** located under the ORIGINAL FEEDER. It is NOT the plate of glass you place the original on . Look UNDER the original feeder for a scrap of paper stuck in the optical path of the GLASS ****, and remove the scrap, or CLEAN THE SCAN GLASS IF CORRECTION FLUID, INK, ETC ARE STUCK ON IT. If the line shows up on ALL prints, your CHARGE CLEANING SLIDER located in the IMAGING (DRUM) UNIT must be slid all the way to one end of the charger, OR IT WILL CAUSE A BLACK LINE ON ALL PRINTS. Otherwise, the IMAGING UNIT may need to be cleaned or replaced. Toner smudges on the drum would indicate need for cleaning or replacement.

Sounds like you have a glitch in the main logic board of the printer when it prints the axial location buffer is loaded either with junk or isn't functional and sees nothing but blank data in that location. Try resetting the printer consult manual/mfg for reset codes?

When I copy fax or scan from my printer MFC-7420 there is a line right thru' the page.how do I get rid of the line?

The line doesn't show up when you print, right? If you are feeding your original from the document feeder when you get the line, there is most likely Wite-Out, dirt or other debris on the thin strip of glass to the left of the main scanner glass. You'll probably be able to see whatever is causing the line and clean it off, but if you can't see anything, try cleaning that glass strip with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free rag.

If you get the line when copying off of the main scanner glass, there is dirt or dust on your scanner's mirrors, lamp, or lens. To get rid of the line, you'll have to take the glass and surrounding covers off and blow compressed air onto the mirrors and other pieces of the optics assembly. If that doesn't get rid of the line, wipe the mirrors down with a dry lint-free rag.

Hi, I have a black line that runs from top to bottom of the page when scanning, faxing and copying. How do I fix this issue?

the blcak line that runs from top to bottom is due to a dirty misaligned print head...do a full printer maintenance on your printer/scanner . Once the heads and rollers get clean and the printer is aligned, it should get rid of any black streaks or lines. I own a Brother Printer/scanner and it did the same thing to me, as soon as I ran maintenance on it..it fixed the black straks and lines I had on my prints.

Black line vertically on scanned/printed documents

This problem can be caused by a number of different issues. If it occurs when you copy, check the scanning glass to see if there is any dust/gunk on the scanner glass. Also if you machine has a document feeder than you need to check the **** glass that the paper feeds past.

If it occurs when you print than you probably need to clean your printer. Check your manual for exact details on how to clean your printer but in general it could be on a paper feed roller or it maybe something on the drum. If you let me know what printer this is happening on I can direct you to a manual if needed.

Dell No. 962 (All-In-One Printer)

you need to go to your printer settings and make sure it is set as the default printer for everything. Make sure it is also set as your default scanner. you may also try lightening the image with the lighter/darker setting on the machine. if this continues, you may want to see if a section of the light is burnt out. this wiill cause darkness on scan & copies but not printing from the c drive. Make sure the machine is lighting up completely when is scans or copies. If part of the lighting is burnt out it will be a fix or replace situation.

Black lines

Not sure what you have tried but if there are no lines when printing but there when scanning there is something on the scanner. Could be something as small a single dot of dirt and it will put a line down the whole page. Try cleaning the glass.

Black line when scanning or copying

If the line only appears when the scanner is used & not when printing directly from the computer, you are correct in assuming the problem lies in the scanner assy. There should be mirrors attached to the scanner assy which will gather dust and cause copy/scan problems. Remove the glass & clean the mirrors with a DRY cotton cloth. Do not use any cleaning solution on the mirrors as they are sometimes treated & can be ruined if they come in contact with a cleaning solution. Use the dry cloth to wipe off the lens while you have it apart. Also clean both sides of the copy glass while you have it off. Reinstall glass & test.Cleaning the optics solves the problem most of the time. Good Luck!!
