This is due to the fault in the keyboard, its only remedy is to replace it, or use a USB keyboard, if you are not sound on technical ground its better to be replace by the technician

External keyboard doesn't work properly. When I press the "e" or "w" key, it types "we"-- s key types "sd" -- x key types "xc" -- there are several others that do the same thing. How can I fix it?

make sure usb legacy mode is on in your bios settings if option available; if you use an external kbd due to internal one's failure then the internal probably causes interference and jams the keymaping you should detach it's flex cable from the motherboard in this case (needs experience and a lot of attention) heres an example on how to remove keyboard on a random machine (but remember each machine has it own way to remove so you'd better search for a specific tutorial for your's)

I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Inspiron M5010 laptop. Now I no longer have wireless. The F2 key which normally would turn it on no longer works. I gather that I no longer have the drivers for the top row of...

The function key on my dell laptop was set to the F keys, meaning you have to hit the function key and then an F key to activate the F key. I switched it in the bios so I don't have to hit the function key to activate the F keys. So I would have had to hit Fn+Ctrl-Alt-F1 for example to get to TTY 1. Now since i switched it off in the bios All I have to do is hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to the terminal. But in order to turn off wifi from the F key (for example) I have to hit Fn+F2. It's switched.

Try this simple steps, because actually the problem was getting your "numlock" function on.

First find the key from your keyboard that looks like a "lock" with a number sign inside it. You can probably find it between F1 to F12.

Then press that key together with your Fn key, that should remove your numlock.

Sounds like a keyboard problem. You might want to try replacing it check on eBay. Also can you determine when this happened and maybe something you did like install something. Check windows update for a hardware update. If that doesn't work try restoring the computer with system restore.

I have a problem with the keyboard on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. The key lock is not on but when I type numbers, I get letters as well. e.g. 1q 2w 3e 4r 5 6 7u 8i 9o 0p I also get numbers when I type...

Look if your Num Lock is on, then turn it off. Try also another keyboard, to see if the problem presists.
I think it's a very little thing, but i can't help you more unless i see it.

Good Luck :)

Looks like the Top row key press points are overlapped. This might have happened due to a physical impact. Try removing the keyboard panel and restting the pressure points.

Keyboard keys are including numbers with it

Hello Rich,
This happens when the nubmers which are on the alphabet keys are enabled. You can stop this by holding Fn key on the notebook then press Scroll lock once. This will disable these number.

Allocation of fingers on keys

HOME KEYS: Left index finger goes on the "F" (you should feel a small bump on the key), left middle finger --> "D", left third finger --> "S", and left pinkie finger --> "A". Right index finger --> "J" (feel bump), right middle finger --> "K", right third finger --> "L", and right pinkie finger --> ";" (semi-colon/colon key). Both thumbs rest on the space bar While the fingers basically stay on those keys, you stretch up & down for the keys closest to the "home keys" (example: use pinkie for "enter" key on the right; use left index finger for "R" and "T). It takes a little while to get used to this but it's the proper way to type, and it is efficient so once you get used to it, you'll be typing like a pro!!
