Tekram K7KX A Motherboard

K7KX-A and Annihilator 2 MX?

By Charlie - usenet poster

Hi,

Major problems with Tekram K7KX-A Mobo and Annihilator 2 MX.

Can get mainly OpenGL stuff working, no DirectX 3D stuff (freeze), e.g.
can get Grove, Lightning and Pond demos working, the rest hang. No to
QuakeIIIArena and Alice. Nebula Device graphics engine works in OpenGL
but not in DirectX

Have gone through geforcefaq with no avail, fiddled with BIOS settings
ad infinitum.

Have:

Athlon 800
K7KX-A Mobo

DirectX8.0 (tried DirectX7 as well)

Drivers:

Latest VIA AGP (4.04 - part of Via 4.25a driver set)
NVidia 6.50 (seems the best so far, have tried all the rest as well
including 7.X)

Any help much appreciated,

Petr

Hi,

ASD reports everything as fine. I'm starting to think that there is a
problem with the AGP bus. Is there a tool which can run some sort of AGP
diagnostic?

Hi,

Finally figured out that the problem is caused by CyberGuard. Alas,
Alice still does not run, but the rest of the games/demos do.

Thanks for the help.

What happens when you run the D3D test?

Are you able to try the card in another machine?

What speed is the AGP bus running at?

What type of memory do you have?

Hi,

All D3D apps hang, including the D3D test. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del most of
the time allows you to kill the app with "End Task", and Win98
functionality is restored.

Also media players from Real, Apple and Microsoft exhibit similar hangs.

Again, pure OpenGL apps seem to work fine.

QuakeIIIArena hangs while "Waiting for Snapshot".

Alas, no.

BTW, I've reseated the card, fiddled with the BIOS settings galore and
tried several AGP Driving values with no success.

Have you tried setting the AGP to 2x or even 1x?

Try installing the Via AGP drivers in normal mode.

Hi,

Yes.

I have tried both turbo and normal/standard mode with no success.

I'm also getting 'pixel drops' for some standard icons, such as the
toggle buttons.

How much memory do you have?  Try setting the AGP aperture size to 16mb.
