Got a laptop for 55th birthday. No instruction booklet. Help! It's a HP G72. Having trouble with touchpad and don't know how to use any of the other things on computer like notebook, digital reader. Don't know what the bar under the touchpad is for or why there is a light in the upper left of the touchpad. Direct me to the correct place if you can't help. THANKS!

Is it overheating? Does it shut down when left unattended? Clean fan and vents. Improve air flow through laptop. Change power settings/Advanced Power Settings to High Performance and change Hibernate/sleep to never.

Your motherboard has gone bad. The best thing to do is buy a new laptop. You can find a replacement motherboard online but after the cost of the part, shipping, and the pain of removing 100 screws, it just isn't worth it.

I'll recommend you to directly try Driver Detective and let the software have a free scan to automatically detect & update the missing drivers. This way things can be much easier & efficient. Also you don't have to risk install wrong drivers which might cause severe system issues.

Go to:

Control Panel -> Mouse

click there ' Device Settings ' tab. Choose ' Synaptics TouchPad ' and little lower click on ' Settings... '. From the list which will be there select ' Scrolling ' -> ' One - Finger Scrolling ' and uncheck (if they are checked):

• Enable vertical scrolling

• Enable horizontal scrolling.

Click ' OK' .


Next go to:

Control Panel -> Mouse

double tap the lil dent on the key pad

1. your wireless adaptor is not on so turn it on by touching the wireless symbol at the touchpad
2. repair your wireless softwarewith your HP repair tool at the maintenace

go into device manager and uninstall driver then scan for hardware changes, this should trigger a driver reinstall

just go to control panal then select mouse & Touch pad [name may be different because you don't intimate the operating systems] settings then
go to pointer option un-check the box showing " Automatically select default option"

and change the mouse speed using slider as you comfort
