Kenwood KDC-X590 CD Player

This unit has 2 rear right,2 rear left,2 front right and 2 front left speaker connection points? One set is a hard wire the other is an rca jack.
Does it matter which one I use hard wire rca jack?

What I mean by hard wired is that they are just unterminated wires which in order to connect them to the four speakers you need a crimp connection. The RCA jack is a modular plug in this case female type, which you plug in the matching male plug into to connect your four speakers. The sub woofer left and right connections are RCA. Are you telling me I can only use the hardwired connections to my four speakers and if I to want to use the RCA jacks for these four speakers I need to send them through an auxiliary amplifier first? Is this also true with the sub woofer connections? Then install manual that I have isn't clear on this point

Sounds like you might have a bad connection where the faceplate connects to the unit, or the faceplate is bad.

This deck is in protect mode

A couple things may cause this:
If a speaker wire shorted out (either a voice coil or the wire itself is grounded; touches the vehicles chassis ground)
Solution: disconnect each speaker from the deck and see if it turns back on. 90% of the time thats the problem.

It could be overheating.

The first thing to check would be the voltages on the speaker wires. They should be about 6.5 to 7 volts on each wire. Then check the surface mounted resistors on the front right side of the main board. Take out the CD deck and reflow the solder on them. Make sure you do this part with no power source connected. The surface mounted resistors have "2R7" on the top of them and are located in the right front as mentioned before, while looking at the unit from the front facing you. If you do not find the surface mounted resistors it could be that I am thinking of another model of Kenwood, but I am pretty sure they are also in this model as well. Use just a touch of solder on each side of the resistors, there are about 6 to 8 of them all connected in series. After that, reconnect the CD deck and connect the power source to the red and yellow wires and the black wire is your ground, connect that as well. The display should light up. Let me know what you come up with on the voltages of the speaker wires and if the display starts working again. I do not have access to my service manuals at this time, it may be about 2 weeks before I can get them. So I may not be able to get you completely fixed up until I can get my service manuals. A schematic is sometimes the most valuable tool when fixing electronics.

It's a universal color code.
front right is gray
front left is white
rear right is purple
rear left is green

The black striped wire on each set is the negative.
